Adele Wins Big on 2012 Brit AwardsFresh off her big win at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, Adele continued to add more statuettes to her collection by winning big at this year’s BRIT Awards. The “Rumour Has It” singer swept clean her nominations by grabbing a total of two coveted prizes.

Adele won Best British Female, beating Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, Kate Bush and Laura Marling. After receiving the award from Kylie Minogue, she gushed that it has been an amazing year adding that she feel like a drag queen next to the presenter. She thanked her record label for letting her be the kind of artist she wants to be. Her second win of the evening was Best British Album. Taking home the Kudo through her groundbreaking album “21”, she once again bested Florence in addition to pushing aside Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and PJ Harvey.

A breathless Adele expressed her gratefulness and said that nothing makes her prouder than coming home with six grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year. The songstress said that she is so proud to be British and to be flying the flag and to be in the same room as all of the people who attended the awards night. Adele who seemed to have more to say was approached by host James Corden and asked to cut short her speech. Corden said apologized to the singer by saying that he can’t believe he is going to do that to which she replied by asking if she can just say, then goodbye and she’ll she all next time round. Before exiting the stage, she raised her middle finger to the camera.

The actor and comedian said he was told to end Adele’s speech by someone in the ITV gallery who would have been talking to him through his earpiece. The finger pointed at the show’s executive producer Suzi Aplin but sources said Aplin who used to date DJ Chris Evans, was not responsible. A source told the Daily Express that it is still unclear exactly who called it but it was not Suzi noting that it looks like it came from higher up than that. According to the source, there are certain protocols in big, live TV shows which dictate that things can’t be changed at the eleventh hour, no matter how significant. Corden was told that they were out of time and needed to cut to Blur’s finale in honour of the band’s Outstanding Contribution to Music award.

And after the show, Corden told ITV2 that he does not understand it explaining that he was having the best night of his life, then he has to cut Adele off before she has finished. The Brits source added that the point is, ITV has apologized, Adele has apologized for making a rude gesture and nobody is offended, least of all Adele who had the best night of her life.

Adele Announced Live Comeback at February 12 Grammy AwardsBritish chart-topper Adele will male her live comeback at the Grammy Awards to be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles in just under two weeks, after being on vocal rest since throat surgery  sidelined the singer late last year. The 23-year-old singer tweeted the news to her fans saying that she will be singing at the Grammys. She also said that it has been so long she started to forget that she was a singer noting that she cannot wait to speak soon.

Adele said in a statement that she was immensely proud to have been asked to perform at music’s biggest night on February 12 after three-month hiatus on vocal rest. She said that it is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all. The two-time Grammy winner, whose second album “21” smashed chart records around the world last year, was forced to cancel U.S. tour dates in November 2011 when she underwent microsurgery in Boston to treat a benign polyp on her vocal cords which was causing recurrent bleeding.

Appearing with her at the 54th Grammy Awards show will be top acts including Coldplay, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Adele is also expected to perform at the BRIT Awards, Britain’s top music accolades, in London on February 21. The sultry singer has been nominated for six Grammys this year — record of the year, song of the year and best short form music video for “Rolling In The Deep,” album of the year and best pop vocal album for “21″ and best pop solo performance for “Someone Like You.” Kanye West leads this year’s nominations, with seven nods while Foo Fighters are just behind him with six. The Beach Boys, who announced their comeback last month, have also hinted that they may perform at the event, with guitarist Al Jardine promising a “surprise” which will be “very exciting”.

“21″ has made record history by becoming the first album since 1993 to surpass 17 weeks at the top spot of the Billboard 200 chart, and it joined a list of just nine albums to score two No. 1 singles on Billboard Hot 100 songs chart while sitting atop the album chart. The record-breaking star sold 3.7 million copies of her album “21” last year despite having to cancel the remainder of her tour toward the end of last year. She had told doctors that her voice was just switching off during performances which led her to her throat surgery. The Grammys were originally called, in the pre-CD era, Gramophone Awards. They are awarded by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to artists for outstanding musical achievement. The first awards were presented in 1959. This year’s event, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, will be the 54th awards ceremony and it will hosted by the effervescent rapper LL Cool J.

Adele Named 2011 Top Artist by BillboardBritish singer Adele made Billboard history on Friday when she became the first female singer to be named top artist, have the top album, “21,” and score the top single, “Rolling in the Deep,” all in one year.  Since Billboard added the top overall artist category to its year-end recaps in 1981, no woman has ever pulled off the triple crown win until this year.

The 23-year-old chanteuse was followed in the top artist group by No. 2 Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga in that order, while Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars rounded out the top ten.  Adele said in an interview with Billboard that she thinks one of the things that sets her apart from other artists who have had the same kind of success is that her life is not speculated about by the media.

Tye Comer, editor of Billboard.com, attributed Adele’s success to her being a breath of fresh air in a market saturated with pop artists cut from a certain cloth, like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.  Comer said that her success is really inspiring because it shows that there is still room in the music industry for an artist to make it with true, raw talent.  He added that it is necessarily always about the outrageous outfits or flashy videos, but an amazing voice coupled with the right song still has the ability to turn the ears of millions of people and keep them interested.

Adele’s smash hit album “21,” which was described by Billboard’s Julianne Escobedo Shepherd as a “break-up requiem,” was written in the aftermath of the singer’s failed relationship, and it features underlying themes of love, heartache and moving forward.  The singer said that she is incredibly private but she is also incredibly honest and she thinks that creates a kind of meet in the middle respectable ground.  The singer’s rousing soul and blues-fused single “Rolling in the Deep,” which was named the No. 1 song, beat pop and dance tracks like LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” Katy Perry’s “Firework” and “E.T.” featuring Kanye West, as well as Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything.”  Adele, who earned six Grammy nominations last week, was also named top female, while rapper Lil Wayne was awarded top male and Wiz Khalifa was the best new artist.  Lil Wayne’s album “Tha Carter IV” (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic) ranks at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 Albums recap, while he also places six titles on the Hot 100 Songs roundup (Nos. 21, 23, 41, 47, 53 and 95).

Billboard’s year-end music recaps are based on chart performance during the chart year that began with last year’s charts dated Dec. 4 and ended with the Nov. 26, 2011 charts.  The Top Artists recap ranks the best-performing acts of the year derived from activity on the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 singles list, as well as streaming, social, touring boxscore and ringtone data.
