Amy Brenneman is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal in the TV series of NYPD Blue and in Judging Amy as well as in Private Practice. She was born in June 22, 1964 in New London, Connecticut to Frederica Joanne and Russell Langdon Brenneman, a judge and an environmental lawyer. She was baptized with the real name of Amy Frederica Brenneman nad was raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut, where she get involved in theater in school and in local theater as well. Brenneman entered the Harvard Unniversity and graduated with major in comparative religion in year 1987. While she was still on the said school, Brenneman co-founded the Cornerstone Theater Company. For her first TV role, she portrayed the role of Janice Licalst in the TV police drama called, NYPD Blue.
For her portrayal in NYPD Blue, Brenneman earned a nomination for the Emmy Award for the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in year 1994 for Outstanding Guest Actress. On the other hand, After Brenneman left the show, she appeared in several films like in the 1995 comedy fantasy film of Casper as well as in the crime film of Heat, where she portrayed the role of Eady. On the following year,she appeared in two different films in the thriller film of Fear and in the disaster film of Daylight, where she portrayed the role of Madelyne “ Maddy” Thompson. Moreover, Brenneman also had a recurring role in the sitcom called, Frasier. In year 1999, Brenneman turned to be the creator and executive producer of the TV series entitled, Judging Amy, where she also portrayed the titled role.
In year 2002, Brenneman was awarded the Women in Film Lucy Award in appreciation for her excellence and innovation in her creative works that improved the insight of every woman using the medium of TV. In March 2007, she was included in the cast of the spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy called, Private Practice, portraying the role of Dr. Violet Turner. On the same year, she portrayed the role of Sylvia Avila in the romantic drama film of The Jane Austen Book Club, which is initially based on the 2004 book of Karen Joy Fowler. The film also includes the stars of Maria Bello and Emily Blunt as well as Kathy Baker and Hugh Dancy. On the following year, she starred together with Al PAcino in the American thriller film called, 88 Minutes. On the same year, she was also nominated as a candidate on the Unite for Strength.
