Peter Gene Hernandez or most commonly known as Bruno Mars was born on October 8, 1985 and he was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by his family, which is also in the line of music. Mars was not only a singer but also a music producer. He started his career at a very young age just like the others. His parents were Pete Hernandez, a Puerto Rican and Filipino descent, and Bernadette Hernandez.

He got his stage name ‘Bruno’ as his father called him that way because of the similarity of Mars to Bruno Sammertino, a chubby professional wrestler. Bruno was exposed to a various mix of R&B, hip-hop, rock and reggae. He also knows how to play bass, keyboard, guitar and drums. At a younger age, he was imitating The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

He was then featured in Midweek as Little Elvis in 1990. He later imitated on the influence of Presley on his music since he was a really big fan of Elvis. He moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his singing career after graduating from President Theodore Roosevelt High School in 2003 at the age of 17 years old. After his moving to LA, he signed to Motown Records in 2004, in an agreement that went nowhere.

Still, his experience with Motown showed to be a very advantageous to his career when he met Philip Lawrence, a producer and a songwriter. Bruno, together with Lawrence and Engineer Ari Levine started to write songs and formed the production group called The Smeezingtons. Furthermore, Lawrence introduced Bruno to Aaron Bay-Shuck, his future manager at Atlantic Records.

After Bay-Shuck heard him play a number of songs on his guitar, he wanted Bruno to sign him instantly, but it took almost three years for the Atlantic Records to finally sign Bruno to the label. For a mean while, Bay-Shuck hired The Smeezingtons and Bruno to produce and write songs for the label’s artists. Before he become a successful and well-known solo artist, Mars was a recognized music producer and writing songs for Flo Rida, Sean Kingston, Brandy, Adam Levine, Travie McCoy and Alexandra Burke.

He was also a co-writer of the song Get Sexy and offered backing vocals on their album entitled Sweet. His first appearance in music as a solo singer was in the second album of Far Eastern Movement entitled Animal, featured on hip-hop artist and pastor Jaeson Ma’s debut single calle Love in August 2009. He became more famous as a solo artist when he was featured on and co-write the song Nothin’ on You by B.o.B and the song Billionaire by Travie McCoy.
