Carey Mulligan is an English actress, who is most notable for the portrayal in the 2005 film of Pride & Prejudice, was born on May 28, 1985 in Westminster, London, England, to Nano and Stephen Mulligan. Mulligan, who was baptized with the real name of Carey Hannah Mulligan, has a elder brother. At the young age of three, she together with her family relocated from England to Germany, after her father accepted the work of running the European arm of the Intercontinental Hotels and because of the work of her father, she and her family lived in an expensive hotels for almost eight years. She was described as a tomboy at the young age of 15 and very academic until the age of 14. Her passion when it comes to acting, appeared from watching her brother performing in a school play production for The King and I, she then entered a Broadway plays when she was a teen. She also applied and failed to pass three drama schools and after failing for the auditions, Mulligan went through confusions on whether she will be pursuing an acting career.

At the young age of 18, Mulligan started her professional career, earning the role of Kitty Bennett in the 2005 film of Pride & Prejudice, film adaptation of the book of Jane Austen. On the same year, Mulligan portrayed a recurring role in the BBC award winning adaptation of Bleak House. In year 2007, she appeared in various films like the 2007 film of My Boy Jack, which starred Daniel Radcliffe and David Haig as well as Kim Cattrall. She then portrayed the role of Sally Sparrow in an episode of the series show of Doctor Who, where she was garnered with a Constellation Award. Also, in year 2007, she appeared in the revival f the well known The Seagull.

In year 2009, Mulligan portrayed the lead role of Jenny Mellor in the coming-of-age drama film of An Education. On the following year, she starred in the drama film of The Greatest. After being chosen to be part of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, she received a British Award for the Adaptation film of Never Let Me Go. In addition, Mulligan also became the vocals for the single called, Write about Love by the indie pop band of Belle & Sebastian. She then made her comeback on stage on the Atlantic Theater Company’s off Broadway play for Through a Glass, Darkly, starting May 13 up to July 3, 2011, where she portrayed on the lead roles.

Mulligan portrayed the role of Irene in the 2011 neo-noir thriller film of Drive. She also started on filming the drama film of Steve McQueen entitled, Shame, which also includes the star of Michael Fassbender. On the other hand, Mulligan is set to star together with Leonardo DiCaprio  in the upcoming film adaptation for The Great Gatsby, where she will be portraying the role of Daisy Buchanan.
