Comedian Charlie Sheen, who has been fired from his previous role on TV’s ‘Two and a half men,’ will return to television in Summer 2012 in his new sitcom ‘Anger Management’ to be aired on FX.  The new sitcom, which had been previously announced but had yet to find a network, sees Sheen playing an anger management therapist who causes chaos in his patients’ lives by using unconventional methods, the network said in a statement.  The new show is the latest in Sheen’s bid to turn over a new leaf in his career after a turbulent year.

He was TV’s highest-paid actor for his role as womanizing bachelor Charlie Harper in the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” but was fired after a public dispute with the show and network executives at CBS, during which he lashed out at show creator Chuck Lorre. He was replaced by actor Ashton Kutcher.  It has been a while since the actor’s name made a noise in the news who was then trying to make a living hocking goodies online with catchy ‘tiger’s blood’ and ‘winning’ related phrases and finally launching a soon-failed-self-aggrandizing comedy concert series.  All of that came after a year in which he found himself in legal trouble and in rehab for drug and alcohol use.

More recently the star settled a lawsuit with the ‘Two and a Half Men’ producers and appeared on TV talk shows admitting he was out of control.  The actor also took the stage at the Emmys and said to the ‘Men’ cast and crew that from the bottom of his heart he wishes then nothing but the best for the upcoming season.

“Anger Management,” in which Sheen retains a significant ownership stake, is loosely based on the 2003 film of the same name starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson. FX has ordered 10 episodes, and production will begin in early 2012.  The President and general manager of FX Networks said in a statement that they think that Bruce Helford, Joe Roth and Charlie Sheen have come up with a wonderful, hilarious vehicle for Charlie’s acting talents and a character they are very much looking forward to seeing him play.

Sheen landing the starring role in the sitcom said that he chose the role because it might be a big stretch for him to play a guy with serious anger management issues.  Sheen also stated that he is looking forward to the project because it gives him real ownership to the series, a certain amount of creative control.  One of Sheen’s cited reason for having issues with “Two and a Half Men” was creative differences with producer Chuck Lorre.

Sheen’s new boss, producer Joe Roth, is excited about the show.  According to him, there is no better than Charlie Sheen to tackle ‘Anger Management’ and with Charlie’s incredible talent and comedic gifts, he remains the leading man of TV sitcoms.  The series reunites Roth and Sheen, who worked together on movies like ‘Major League,’ ‘Young Guns’ and ‘Three Musketeers.’

After being replaced by actor, Ashton Kutcher, the ousted ‘Two and a Half Men’ star took a few shots at the show while out in Los Angeles on Thursday saying he is very disappointed in the direction the show has taken since he left.  Charlie Sheen is currently preparing for his small-screen adaptation of the Jack Nicholson film ‘Anger Management.’  Sheen said that people are not stupid you know, not all of them when he was asked about the ratings slide that the show has taken since its eye-popping season premiere numbers.

Sheen was a critical about his replacement, Ashton Kutcher, who plays brokenhearted Internet millionaire Walden Schmidt on the show.  Sheen said Kutcher is doing the best he can and he do not think the role is cursed but he is extremely disappointed with how they are handling what he left behind.  The actor was sensationally fired from his leading role as Charlie Harper on the hit sitcom in March (11) after a series of bizarre antics and a much-publicized fall-out with producers and series creator Chuck Lorre.  The character of Sheen, Charlie Harper, which he played for seven and a half season, has died in the show.  The producers think of eliminating Sheen in the show that way.

Following a very public and ugly war of words with the show’s executive producer Chuck Lorre, the actor struck a conciliatory tone at this year’s Emmys taking the stage and wishing his former cohorts nothing but the best.  He said in that from the bottom of his heart he wish Lorre nothing but the best for his upcoming season.  According to Sheen, they spent eight wonderful years together and know that he will continue to make great television.  Sheen proved there were no hard feelings by genuinely sending his former colleagues his best onstage at the Los Angeles ceremony.

Sheen’s former co-star Jon Cryer later presented an award with Kutcher, who introduced himself by stating that he is not Charlie Sheen.  Kutcher also made light of an insult Sheen had previously directed at Cryer saying to Jon that he want to tell him something. He said he do not think he is a troll.  The new and old Two and a Half Men leads came face-to-face backstage at the Emmys, and Kutcher had nothing but praise for his TV predecessor.  Taking to Twitter.com after the meeting, Kutcher addressed Charlie Sheen that it is good to meet him too and wishing him the best on his new gig.  The awkward encounter was captured on camera by Entourage star Jeremy Piven, who posted the photo on his Twitter blog.

Two weeks later, in late September, Sheen settled his lawsuit with Lorre and Warner Bros. Television. As The Wrap reported at the time, Sheen received $25 million in the deal, though that primarily consists of back-end payments from episodes he had already filmed. (Sheen had been seeking $100 million in the suit.)
