Charlotte Lucy Gainsbourg is an Anglo-French actress and singer, who was born on July 21, 1971 in London and was raised in Paris, to Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, a singer-songwriter and an actress. Gainsbourg entered the Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel, which is located in Paris. In addition, Gainsbourg was born in a well known family, her maternal grandmother was the actress Judy Campbell and her uncle is the screenwriter Andrew Birkin, the one who directed her in the 1993 British film called, The Cement Garden. Gainsbourg’s partner is the actor and director Yvan Attal, together with their two children named Ben and Alice. Gainsbourg recently appeared in the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, obviously looked pregnant with their third child.
Gainsbourg’s musical career began at the young age of 12. She waited for almost twenty years just to release her next album called, 5:55 in year 2006. The album earned commercial success and positive response for all of its listeners. Her album has been followed by her third studio album called, IRM, which has been released in year 2009. On the other hand, she made her film debut when she was included on the casts of the 1984 film of Paroles et musique, where she portrayed the role of Catherine Deneuve. In year 1986, she earned a Cesar Award for the category for Most Promising Actress for her portrayal in L’effrontee. She also won the award for the Best Supporting Actress for the film entitled, La Buche, in year 2000.
In year 1996, Gainsbourg portrayed the lead role in the in the film adaptation of the book of Charlotte Bronte called, Jane Eyre. In year 2005, she earned critical praise for her portrayal in the thriller film of Lemming, which also includes the stars of Charlotte Rampling. On the following year, she appeared together with Gael Garcia Bernal in the French film entitled, the Science of Sleep. In year 2007, she portrayed the role of Claire in the directorial film of Todd Haynes called, I’m Not There. On the following year, she starred together with Anthony Hopkins and Laura Linney in the film of The City of Your Final Destination. After appearing on the said film, she started on filming for her next film called, Persecution.
In year 2009, Gainsbourg won the award for the Best Actress at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for the film called, Antichrist. Also in year 2009, her film of Persecution premiered at the 66th Venice International Film Festival, competing for the Golden Lion, the film also includes the stars of Romain Duris and Jean Hugues Anglade. She then completed filming with the film called, The Tree, which has been released in year 2010. In addition, Gainsbourg recently appeared in the science fiction drama film of Melancholia, which also includes the stars of Kirsten Dunst and Kiefer Sutherland.
