Chris Weitz is an American actor, writer, producer and director, who is most notable for the portrayal on the comedy films of American Pie and About a Boy. He was born on November 30, 1969 in New York City, New York, to Susan Kohner and John Weitz, an actress and a novelist. He has a brother named Paul Weitz, who is also an actor and a film maker. In addition, Weitz was baptized with the real name of Christopher John “Chris” Weitz. He attended the St Paul’s School in London and graduated with a degree in English from the Trinity College in Cambridge. On the other hand, Weitz is the grandson of the producer Paul Kohner and the Mesican actress Lupita Tavor, who starred in Santa, which is the Mexico’s first talkie in year 1932.
Moreover, Weitz’s career started when he co-written the 1998 animated film called, Antz. It was followed by various sitcoms works like the Off Center and the 1998 revival of the Fantasy Island. On the following year, Weitz and Paul collaborated to direct and produce the comedy film of American Pie. He then returned as the executive producer of the two theatrical sequels of the film. In year 2001, Weitz directed the second film, the comedy film entitled, Down To Earth, which starred Chris Rock and Regina King as well as Chazz Palminteri. Chris Weitz and his brother tamed up again for the comedy film of About a Boy, which garnered then an Academy Award nomination for the category in the Best Adapted Screeplay. In year 2003, he was appointed to direct the adaptation of the first book of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series called, The Golden Compass.
On the other hand, Weitz has worked for several films like the 2004 film of In Good Company and in the American Dreamz. The said films were directed by his brother. In May 2007, he revealed in his interview with the Empire that he met Moorcock, who trusted with the films and considered his wish for Paul to direct the film. In year 2011, the Summit Entertainment released their newest film called, A Better Life, which has been written by Eric Eason. Nevertheless, Weitz also worked as an actor, portraying the major role in the 2000 comedy film of Chuck & Buck, which also starred Mike White and Lupe Ontiveros as well as Paul Weitz and Maya Rudolph. In year 2008, Weitz confirmed that he will be the one to direct the sequel of the Twilight film, The twilight Saga: New Moon, which has been released on November 2009. The opening for the said film was the third-highest opening weekend in the record of the US domestic, grossing the total amount of $142,839,137.
