Cynthia Nixon is an American actress, who earned much prominence for the portrayal of Miranda Hobbes in the TV series of Sex and the City, where she was garnered with an Emmy award for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Nixon was born on April 9, 1966 in New York City, to Anne Knoll and Walter E. Nixon, an actress and a journalist. She was baptized with the real name of Cynthia Ellen Nixon and has entered the Hunter College High School as well as the Barnard College. In year 2006, it was diagnosed that Nixon has breast cancer when she was having her routine mammogram. Nixon opted not to take her illness on public but after two year, Nixon affirmed in her interview in Good Morning America that she fights for the said disease, since her affirmation on the show, Nixon became a cancer activist and also the Ambassador for the breast cancer organization in the US called, Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
On the other hand, in Nixon’s early career, was included in the ensemble of the Broadway hit plays called, The Real Thing, while she was a freshman in the Barnard College. She also appeared in another hit play called, Hurlybury, together with William Hurt and Ron Silver as well as Sigourney Weaver. Moreover, Nixon made her initial appearance on screen in the TV show called, To Tell the Truth. She then made big screen debut in the 1980 film of Little Darlings, where she portrayed the role of Sunshine Walker, together with the stars of Tatum O’Neal and Kristy McNichol. In year 1986, Nixon portrayed her first supporting role in the film entitled, The Manhattan Project, alongside John Lithgow and Christopher Collet. She then included in the casts of the miniseries of NBC entitled, The Murder of Mary Phagan, where she portrayed the role of Doreen. In year 1988, Nixon portrayed the role of Juliet in New York Shakespeare Festival production for the renowned Romeo and Juliet.
Moreover, in year 1990, Nixon appeared as Laura di Biasi in one of the episodes of the TV series of law & order. She also appeared in the miniseries called, Love, Lie and Murder, where she portrayed the role of Donna. Nixon portrayed the role of Alice Stark in the 1993 thriller film entitled, the Pelican Brief, which starred Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. On the same year, she appeared in the comedy film called, Baby’s Day Out, where she portrayed the role of Golbertine. Nixon was also included in the casts of the 1999 film entitled, The Out-of-Towners, which also starred Steve martin and Goldie Hawn. On the other hand, Nixon earned much prominence when she starred in the TV series called, Sex and The City, where she portrayed the role of Miranda Hobbes from year 1998 until 2004. Her popularity led her to portray the lead role in the 2000 film of Advice from a Caterpillar and in Papa’s Angels. She then appeared in the comedy drama film of Igby Goes Down.
In year 2005, Nixon appeared as a guest star in the TV series of ER. On the same year, she also appeared in the HBO TV film called, Warm Springs, where she portrayed the female lead role of Eleanor Roosevelt, together with Kenneth Branagh. On the following year, Nixon took home the Tony Award for the Best Actress in a Leading Role (Play), for her portrayal in Rabbit Hole. On the other hand, Nixon also earned the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for the album called, An Inconvenient Truth (Al Gore). In year 2010, it was reported that Nixon will be appearing in some of the episodes of the TV series of Showtime called, The Bug C. in addition, Nixon is set to appear in the upcoming drama film entitled, Rampart.
