Born November 13, 1991 in Toronto, Ontario, Devon Bostick is a Canadian actor best known for playing the lead role in the Atom Egoyan-directed film Adoration and Rodrick Heffley in the Diary of a Whimpy Kid movies.
Devon’s mother, Stephanie Gorin, is a casting agent in Toronto, working in stage and screen, and his father, Joe Bostick, is an actor as well as a film fight coordinator. Devon was just four when his mother secured him a small non-speaking role on Exhibit A. Devon began acting when in grade five. At the age of eight, he began landing small roles in TV movies such as The Scream Team, DC 9/11: Time of Crisis, Hustle and Shania: A Life in Eight Albums. His career got a big boost when his mom cast him in his first motion picture, Godsend, starring Robert De Niro. Devon’s lead performance in Atom Egoyan’s Adoration, which screened in competition at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, is one of the highlights of his career. His brother Jesse is also a successful actor.
He is a graduate of the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto where he majored in drama for four years. He has had roles in the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation and in the film Citizen Duane. In Adoration, he plays Simon, a boy who is being raised by his uncle (played by Scott Speedman) after his parent’s death. He also appears in an online spoof trailer for a hoax movie called “Ice Fortress.” He had roles in The Poet, a World War II drama starring Roy Scheider and Colm Feore, Saw VI as Brent and Assassin’s Creed: Lineage as Ezio Auditore. Bostick also played Erica’s deceased brother Leo in CBC Television’s series Being Erica. He was nominated for a Young Artist Award for his work on the 2007 TV movie The Altar Boy Gang.
Other work includes a supporting role in Saw VI and leading roles in George F. Romero’s Survival of the Dead, Jeremy Podeswa’s Fugitive Pieces, which opened the Toronto International Film Festival, and Kari Skogland’s The Stone Angel, starring Ellen Burstyn. In Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Devon played big brother Rodrick, reprising the role in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.
