The 63-year-old American actress, who gained successful career on screen and stage and has earned two Academy Awards and two Emmy Awards as well as Golden Globe Award and has also been nominated for a BAFTA Award. She was born on March 28, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Anne Stewart and Bernard John Wiest, a nurse and a professor. Wiest has two brothers named Greg and Don Wiest. Her initial ambition was to be a ballerina but in late high school she changed her goal to be in theater. She graduated from the University of Maryland in year 1969, having a degree in Arts and Sciences.
Wiest made her film debut in year 1980, where she was included in the casts of It’s My Turn. However, it did not established herself as a film actress until she appeared in the work of Woody Allen in year 1980s. in addition, Wiest attended the University of Maryland but left after her third term with a Shakespearean troupe. She then had a supporting role Ina a New York Shakespeare festival production for Ashes. She has also been in the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, CT, portraying the title role on the Ibsen’s Hedda Gbler. On the other hand, Wiest made her Broadway debut in Robert Anderson’s Solitaire/ Double Solitaire. She subsequently had four-year job as one of the members if the Arena Stage in Washington D.C.
In year 1976, she entered the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and also starred as a leading role in the Amlin Gray’s Pirated and Christopher Durang’s A History of the American Film. In year 2003, Wiest appeared together wit Al Pacino and Marisa Tomei in Oscar Wilde’s Salome. On the other hand, she starred in Memory House in year 2005 and in one of the production of Wendy Warsserstein’s final play called, Third, which has been directed by Daniel Sullivan.
In her film and TV works, Wiest earned an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal in Hannah and Her Sisters in year 1987 and in the 1995’s Bullets over Broadway. She then appeared in the other Woody Allen’s film like The Purple Rose of Cairo and Radio Days as well as the 1987 film of September. The other films role of Wiest includes the 1991 film of Jodie Foster entitled, Little Man Tale and the 1996 The Birdcage.
On the other hand, she also starred in the TV series of The 10th Kingdon in year 2010. From the year 2000 up to year 2002, she portrayed the role of interim District Attorney Nora Lewin in the drama series of NBC called, Law & Order. In year 2008, she portrayed the role of Gina Toll on the TV series of HBO entitled, In treatment. She also starred in the 2010 film of Rabbit Hole, which also includes the star of Nicole Kidman, which landed on the Toronto International Film Festival. She is also set to appear in the upcoming comedy film of Darling Companion, which also includes the starred of Diane Keaton and Kevin Kline. The film is set to hit the big screen in year 2012.
