There is no like Eminem as the top and most well-known rapper in music industry. He was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on October 17, 1972. His true name was Marshall Bruce Mathers III and the only child of Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. and Deborah Nelson Mathers-Briggs. He was raised only by his mother in poverty when his father abandoned them when Eminem was 18-month old.

At the age of 12-year-old, Eminem and his mother had moved between different towns and cities in Missouri before they have settled in Warren, Michigan. After getting a copy of an album with a title of Licensed to III from Beastie Boys, he became attracted to performing, hip-hop amateur raps at the age pf 14-year-old under the alias M&M.

He joined the group Bassmint Productions and released their extended play entitled Steepin’ onto the Scene. They later switched their name to Soul Intent and they released their first single entitled Fuckin’ Backstabber under Mashin’ Duck Records, their record label. Even if the was enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan, he often participated in freestyle battles at Osborn High School on east side of Detroit.

He also held a minimum-pay work for dishwashing and cooking at the Gilbert’s Lodge Restaurant at St. Claire Shores for some period of time. Infinite was the title of his debut album in 1996 and it was recorded at the Bassmint Recording Studio which was owned by the Bass Brothers. The album was released under Web Entertainment, their independent label.

In 1998, he signed a contract with Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records and released his preliminary main studio album with a title of The Slim Shady LP. Billboard magazine admired his albums as light years forward of the material that Eminem had been writing before. With the popularity of eh album, the controversy came with regard to the lyrics of the album.

In May 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP was released and it sold 1.76 million copies all over the world for its first week. It breaks the records set by Doggystyle of Snoop Doggs as the quickest selling hip-hop album and the song Baby One More Time of Britney Spears as the quickest selling solo album in the history of the United States. In 2001, Eminem performed at the 43rd Grammy Awards with Elton John.
