Emma Thompson is a British actress-comedian, who was born on April 15, 1959 in Paddington, London, England, to Eric Thompson and Phyllida Law, who were both an actor and actress. Thompson has a -younger sister named Sophie Thompson, who is also an actress. Thompson spent most of her life in Scotland and has said that she feels Scottish. Thompson attended the Camden School for Girls and then the Newnham College at the University of Cambridge, where she became one of the members of the University’s comedy troupe, which has been called as the Footlights. As Thompson has really had talent, agent Richard Armitage signed her toe a contract while she was still two years away from her graduation. However, in year 1980, Thompson graduated from Cambridge. She then earned her fame when she portrayed the lead role together with Robert Lindsay in the musical production of Leicester Haymarket Theater entitled, Me and My Girl.

Thompson’s earliest appearances happened when she was featured in the comedy sketch show called, Alfresco, which has been aired in year 1983 and year 1984, which also includes its three part pilot called, There’s Nothing to Worry About, aired in year 1982. In year 1984, Thompson appeared together with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in the episode entitled, Bambi, in the sitcom of The Young Ones, where she portrayed the role of Miss Money-Sterling. On the other hand, her break came in year 1987 when she portrayed the role of a red-haired rock guitarist named Suzi Kettle in the cult TV series called, Tutti Frutti. It was then followed by an appearance in the BBC series of Fortunes of War.

On the other hand, the first major film role of Thompson was in the romantic comedy of Richard Curtis entitled, The Tall Guy in year 1989, which also includes the start of Jeff Goldblum. She then appeared in the 1992 film of the Howards End, where she earned Oscar ward for the Best Actress. In year 1996, she won her next Oscar award for the best adapted screenplay for her adaption of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, which has been directed by Ang Lee. In year 2001 she portrayed the leading role in the HBO drama called, Wit, as well in the 2003 miniseries of Angels in America. Moreover, Thompson portrayed supporting roles in the films of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. She was also features in the 2003 comedy film called, Love Actually.

In year 2009, Thompson portrayed the role of Miss Walters in the coming-of-age drama film of An Educatuin, which starred Carey Mulligan and Nick Hornby. She was also included in the casts of the British comedy film of The Boat That Rocked, which also includes Gemma Arterton, Philip Seymour Hoffman and January Jones as wekllas Kennth Branagh and Bill Nighy. On the other hand, Thompson has reprised her role as Sybill Trelawney in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2. In addition, she is set to voiced the role of Queen Elinor in the upcoming film op Pixar entitled, Brave.
