The 60-year-old Australian actor and film producer was born on July 6, 1951 in Toowoomba Queensland, to Merle and Roy Baden Rush, a department store sales assistant and an accountant. At the young age of five, his parents divorced and it is her mother who took good care of him and also took him to live with her mother’s parents in suburban Brisbane. He entered the Everton Park State High School, before he began his acting profession. Rush also earned an arts degree from the University of Queensland and while he was still in the university, his talent has been noticed by the Queensland Theater Company in Brisbane. He then started his professional career with the said group in year 1971. He subsequently appeared in almost 17 productions.
In year 1975, he moved to Paris to study mime, movement and theatre for two years at the well Known L’Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq, before he made his return to pursue his stage career together with the Queensland Theater Company. Geoffrey Rush debuted in one of the production of the QCTentitled, Wrong Side of the Moon. He then worked with the QCT for almost four years and subsequently portrayed various roles, which took across the classical plays and pantomime. Rush was also included in the casts of some of the Shakespeare’s plays such as The Writer’s Tale and the Troilus and Cressida.
Rush portrayed the title role in the 1998 play of the QTC entitled, The Marriage of Figaro. It was said that the Marriage of Figaro is the opening production of the Optus Playhouse, which held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre at South Bank in Brisbane. In year 2007, Rush portrayed the role of King Berebger in one of the productions of Eugene Lonesco entitled, Exit the King at the Malthouse Theater in Melbourne as well as company B in Sydney. In year 2011, Rush portrayed the lead role in a theatrical adaptation of the Nikolai Gogol’s short tale entitled The Diary of a Madman.
On the other hand, Geoffrey Rush is set to portray the role of Lady Bracknell in Melbournr Theater Company from November 2011. It was said that the production is a reworking of the biggest well known 1998 production, where Rush also appeared, portraying the role of Character Jack Worthing. Rush debuted on big screen in year1981, when he was included in the cast of the Australian film called, Hoodwink. He then appeared in the film of Gillian Armstrong entitled, Starstruck. In year 200, he was garnered an Academy Award nomination for the 2000 film called Quills, where he portrayed the role of Marquis de Sade. In year 2006, he hosted the Australian Film Institute Awards and was the Master of Ceremonies again at the 2007 AFI Awards. He then portrayed the role of Lionel Logue in the 2010 drama film of The King’s Speech, which garnered him a BAFTA and Academy Awards as well as Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting actor nominations.
