Glenn Close is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal of Marquise de Merteuil in the 1988 drama film entitled, Dangerous Liaisons. She was born on March 19, 1947 in Greenwich, Connecticut, to Bettine and William Taliaferro Close. In addition, Close entered the Rosemary Hall, where she graduated in year 1965. She also attended the College of William and Mary, where she took major in theatre. It is where she started to train seriously under the supervision of Howard Scammon. When Close was still a child, she lived together with her mother and father in a stone cottage on her maternal grandfather’s land in Greenwich. On the other hand, Close gave credits to her childhood years, saying that she was sure that the day she played along the Connecticut countryside with free imagination is one of the reasons why it feels so natural for her to act. In her acting career, Close has also performed on stage, including her portrayal in the stage production called, Sunset Boulevard, which earned her a Tony Award in year 1994. She was also included in the ensemble of the 1982 play production of Tom Stoppard entitled, The Real Thing. Close also appeared in the 1990 play of Death and the Maiden, where she portrayed the role of Paulina.
On the other hand, Close made her film debut in year 1982, appearing as Marquise de Mertuil in the 1988 drama film called, Dangerous Liaisons, together with John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. She also appeared in the thriller film of Fatal Attraction. Her portrayal on the said films earned her five nominations for Academy Awards for the Best Actress. On the same year, Close starred together with John Lithgow in the 1982 comedy drama film of The World According to Garp, where she portrayed the role of T.S. Garp. On the following year, she appeared as Sarah Cooper in the film called, The Big Chill. She was also included in the casts of the 1984 film of The Natural, where he portrayed the role Iris. Subsequently, Close starred in the TV film called, Something About Amelia. She also appeared in the 1990 film of Reversal of Fortune, where she portrayed the role of Sunny von Bulow, together with Jeremy Irons and Ron Silver. In year 1991, she appeared in the fantasy film of Hook. She was also included in the casts of the 1994 film of The Paper, where she portrayed the role of Alicia Clark, alongside Michael Keaton and Robert Duvail.
Moreover, Close portrayed the villain role of Cruella de Vil in the1996 film called, 101 Dalmatians, which also starred Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson. She then reprised the said role in the 2000 sequel of the film called, 102 Dalmatians. In year 1997, Close appeared in the films of Air Force One and Paradise Road, where she portrayed the Kathryn Bennett and Adrienne Pargiter. In year 1999, Close made an appearance in the romantic comedy film called, In & Out. On the same year, she starred as Camille Dixon in the comedy film of Cookie’s Fortune.
In year 2000, Close portrayed the role of Dr. Elaine Keener in the film entitled, Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her, together with the stars of Cameron Diaz and Kathy Baker. She was also included in the ensemble of the 2004 films of The Stepford Wives and Heights, where she portrayed the roles of Claire Wellington and Mark. She then appeared in the 2005 film of The Chumscrubber and in Nine Lives. In year 2007, Close portrayed the role of Mrs. Wiittenborn in the drama film called, Evening, which also starred Vanessa Redgrave. On the other hand, Close has also lent her voice for the role of Abigail Puckett in the animated film of Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil. In addition, Close is set to star in the upcoming film entitled, Albert Nobbs.
