Ian Holm’s Biography and PicturesIan Holm is an English actor, who is most notable for the portrayal of Lenny in the 1973 film entitled, The Homecoming, which garnered him a Tony Award and the Best Featured Actor Award. Holm was born on September 12, 1931 in Goodmayes, to Jean Wilson and James Harvey Cuthbert, who were both have a Scottish descent. He was baptized with the real name of In Holm Cuthbert and has a brother named Eric, who passed away in year 1943. Holm entered the Chigwell School, which is located in Essex. On the other hand, his mother and father was a retired from Mortehoe, Deon and in Worthing, where he joined the ensemble of an amateur dramatic society.  Because of his visit into a dentist, Holm met Henry Baynton, who is a renowned Shakespearean actor who accompanied him to train to the well-known Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. On the other hand, his studies were disrupted a year later when he was phoned up for the national Service in the British Army. He was also disrupted when he voluntarily went in an acting tour in United States. In year 1953, Holm graduated in RADA. While he was on the said academy, Holm received an offer for a spot at Stratford, he then stayed for thirteen years there.

On the other hand, Holm made his on screen debit when he was included in the cats of the BBC’s TV series called, Wars of the Roses, where he portrayed the role of Richard III. After appearing on the said series, Holm eventually made himself a star. He subsequently appeared in the musical film called, Oh! What a Lovely War, which also starred Dirk Bogarde, John Gielgud an d more. Moreover, Holm’s big screen break came when he appeared in Ridley Scott’s science fiction horror film of Alien, where he portrayed the role of Ash, alongside Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver and Veronica Cartwright.  Holm’s natural talent on acting led him to appear in various films and TV shows, which also includes the film of Chariots of Fire, wherein his portrayal of Sam Mussabini brought him a special award at Cannes Film Festival as a nomination for an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actor.

In year 1989, Holm received nominations for a BAFTA award for his portrayal in the TV series of Game, Set and in Match, which were all based on the book of Len Deighton. In year 1997, Holm appeared in the films of The Fifth Element and The Sweet Hereafter, where he portrayed the roles of Father Vito Cornelius and Mitchell Stephens, respectively. Holm was included in the ensemble of the 2001 horror mystery film called, From Hell, where he portrayed the role of Sir William Gull, together with the stars of Johnny Depp and Heather Graham. On the same year, Holm also appeared in the box office hit film of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He then reprised his role on its sequel films. In year 2004, he appeared as Professor Terry Rapson in the film of The Day after Tomorrow, which also starred Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Holm was the narrator from year 2005 until 2008 in the TV series called, Horizon. On the same year, he appeared in the film of Renaissance and O Jerusalem. He then lent his voice for the role of Skinner in the 2007 animated film of Ratatouille. In addition, Holm is set to appear in the upcoming film of The Hobbit. In addition, in his personal life, Holm has been married for four times. His first wife name was Lynn Mary Shaw. Next, Sophie Baker and the third was the English actress, Penelope Alice Wilton, whom he lived with from year 1991 until 2001. On the other hand, Holm currently ties with Sophie de Stempel, who is an artist, a protégée and a model.
