Ian McShane is an English actor, who is most notable for the portrayal of Lovejoy in the TV series called, Lovejoy as well as in the Westdrama entitled, Deadwood. He was born on September 29, 1942 in Blackburn, Lancanshire, to Irene and Harry McShane, who is a Scottish-born football player. He was baptized with the real name of Ian David McShane and grew up on Urmston, Lancashire. In addition, McShane entered the Stretford Grammar School. When he was still I United Kingdom, McShane earned much fame when he portrayed the title role in the BBC drama series called, Lovejoy. On the other hand, when he was in United States, he also earned much attention when he appeared in the soap opera of Dallas, where he portrayed the role of Don Lockwood. In addition, he is also known for his portrayal in the mini-series of Roots, where he portrayed the role of Sir Eric Russell.
Subsequently, McShane then appeared in various TV series such as the show called, Wuthering Heights in year 1967. In year 1969, McShane appeared in the romantic comedy film entitled, If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium, where he portrayed the role of Charlie Cartwright, together with the stars of Suzanne Pleshette and Mildred Natwick. He was also included in the casts of the miniseries of Jesus of Nazareth in year 1977. When he was still in United States, he also earned much attention, when he portrayed the role of Al Swearengen in the Western drama series of Dreadwood. For his portrayal on the said series, McShane earned the 2005 Golden Globe Award for the Best Actor in a Television Drama and also earned nomination for the same awards at the 2005 Emmy as well as Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In year 2007, McShane was included in the casts of the fantasy-adventure film entitled, The Golden Compass, together with Dakota Blue Richards, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig as well as Eva Green, Sam Eliot and Ian McKellen. He also lend his voice for the role of Tai Lung in the animated film of Kung Fu Panda, which earned him a nomination for an Annie Award. In year 2009, McShane appeared in the 2009 horror film of Case 39, which also includes the stars of Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper as well as Bradley Cooper. In year 2010, McShane appeared in the adventure film called, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, where he portrayed the role of a Narrator. On the following year, he appeared as Blackbeard in the adventure film entitled, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which also starred Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz as well as Geoffrey Rush. In addition, McShane is set to appear in the upcoming film entitled, Jack the Giant Killer, which is set to release on June 15, 2012.
