James Andrew McAvoy is a Scottish actor, who was born on April 21, 1979 in Port Glasgow, Scotland, to Elizabeth and James McAvoy Senior, a psychiatric nurse and a builder. However, his parents divorced when he was at the young age of seven and his mother had a problem with her health and came up to a decision to live with his maternal parents and McAvoy always visited his grandparents. McAvoy grew up as a Roman Catholic and has a sister named Joy McAvoy, who is also an actress and singerand a half-brother named Donald McAvoy. However, he and his half-brother has not been contact with his father since their childhood years but according to t=his father, McAvoy did not make any contact with him after he moved with his new affair.
At the young age of 15, McAvoy made his acting debut with the 1995 the Near Room. However, after joining the said film, he stated that he was not that interested when it comes to acting but he was encouraged to study the craft after he had romantic feelings with his co-star, Alana Brady. While he was still one of the members of the PACE Youth Theater, McAvoy pursued to act. In year 2000, he graduated at the Roal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He then made several appearances in various TV shows and started to work on films. On the following year, he was included in the casts of the play called, Out in the Open. His acting job on the said film, made him noticed by the film maker named Joe Wright, who offered him to appear in his films. However, McAvoy turned down his offers for many years. Also, in year 2001, he appeared in the TV miniseries called, Bad of Brothers, which was executively produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. He then rose to fame in the TV film adaptation of the novel entitled, White Teeth, in year 2002.
In year 2003, McAvoy starred in the miniseries of Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, which was adapted from the two books of Frank Herbert. McAvoy subsequently starred in the British drama series of the State of Play. On the following year, he portrayed one of supporting roles in the romantic comedy film of Wimbledon, which also includes the star of Kirsten Dunst. On the same year, he appeared in two seasons of the drama series of Shameless, where he portrayed the role of Steve McBride. McAvoy was then included in the casts of the fantasy film of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In year 2006, he portrayed the role of Nicholas Garrigan in the successful film of The Last king of Scotland. Amid of year 2010, McAvoy was included in the cats of the X-Men film and its sequels. On the other hand, McAvoy voiced the character of Arthur in the upcoming animated film of entitled, Arthur Christmas, which is set to hit the big screen on November 23, 2011.
