Jeff Daniels is an American actor and musician, who earned much prominence for the portrayal of Tom Baxter in the comedy-drama film entitled, The Purple Rose of Cairo. He was born on February 19, 1955 in Athens, Georgia, and was baptized with the real name of Jeffrey Warren ‘Jeff’ Daniels. Daniels grew up in Chelsea, Michigan, and entered the Central Michigan University, where he joined some of their school’s theatre program. He also entered the Eastern Michigan University (EMU), which is a drama school, for him to be able to participate in a special Bi-Centennial Repertory show, where he performed in various play productions. On the other hand, the EMU’s guest director, Marshall Mason, asked Daniels to come to New York for him to work at the Circle Repertory Theatre, where he has performed in The Fifth of July in the 1977 until 1978 season. In addition, Daniels has also performed in New Mexico in the 1979 production called, The Shortchanged Review, which was held at Second Stage Theatre.

On the other hand, Daniels has his film debut when he appeared in the film called, Ragtime, where he portrayed the role of P. C. O’Donnell. He then had his breakthrough role when he portrayed the role of Flap Horton in the romantic comedy film called, Terms of Endearment, which also starred Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger. Daniels then starred in the comedy-drama film of Woody Allen entitled, The Purple Rose of Cairo, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.  In year 1986, he starred together with Melanie Griffith in the action comedy film called, Something Wild, which garnered him his second Golden Globe nomination. In year 1990, Daniels starred in the horror comedy film entitled, Arachnophobia, where he portrayed the role of Dr. Ross Jennings. In year 1994, he appeared as Harry Temple, in the film called, Speed. On the following year, Daniels portrayed the role of Lyman Fellers in the film entitled, Redwood Curtain. He was also included in the casts of the comedy film of 101 Dalmatians, where he portrayed the role of Roger Dearly.

In year 2000, Daniels appeared in the TV film of The Crossing, where he portrayed the role of George Washington, together with Roger Rees and Sebastian Roche. On the same year, he also appeared as Ed Saxon in the film of Chasing Sleep. On the other hand, in year 2002, Daniels appeared in the films of Super Sucker and Blood Work, where he portrayed the roles of Fred Barlow and Jasper Noone. In year 2005, he starred in The Squid and the Whale, which earned him hi third Golden Globe nomination. N year 2009, he appeared as Jerry Farlander in the comedy drama film of Away We Go. In addition, Daniels is set to star in the upcoming drama film entitled, Right Angle, where he portrayed the role of Mickey.
