James Anthony “Jim’ Sturgess is an English actor and musician, who is most notable for the portrayal of Jude in the 2007 musucal romantic drama film of Across the Universe, was born on May 16, 1981 in Londo England and was raised in Farnham, Surrey. At the young age of 16, Sturgess attended the University of Salford’s School of Media, Music and Performance in year 1997 and he graduated in year 1999 with an HND in Media and Performance. He was discovered while he was doing an act show that is based in his poetry, which he called as Buzzin, he was then recommended to an actor’s agency in London. After he was included in several TV shows and films, Sturgess became one of the members of a seven-piece band called, Dilated Spies. In addition, Sturgess was also in a band of the Saint Faith. However, he continued his acting career, after the said band was tore down.
Sturgess subsequently portrayed various roles in British productions, mostly in telefilms, which also includes the 2000 I’m Fran Morgan and in the 2001 Hawk. He also appeared in the three installments of The Quest series. In year 2007, Sturgess had his break in the musical romantic film of Across the Universe, where he portrayed the role of Jude Feeny. On the following year, he was included in the casts of the drama film of The Other Boleyn Girl, where he portrayed the role of George Boleyn together with the stars of Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana. He then starred in the drama film of 21, where he portrayed the role of Ben Campbell.
In year 2009, he portrayed the role of Gavin Kossef in the independent drama film of Crossing Over, which also includes the stars of Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd. On the same year, he starred together with Rose McGowan, Ben Kingsley and Kevin Zegers in the Kari Skogland’s directorial film entitled, Fifty Dead Men Walking. Also, in year 2009, he portrayed the role of Jamie Morgan in the British horror film of Heartless. The film garnered him Best Actor Award at the 2010 Fantasporto Film Festival. On the following year, he starred in the war drama film of The Way Back, which also includes the stars of Colin Farrell and Ed Harris as well as Saorise Ronan.
On the same year, Sturgess voiced for the character of Soren in the animated fantasy film called, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. On May 2010, he signed to appeared on the upcoming film of One Day, which also starred Anne Hathaway. He is also set to appear in the upcoming romantic film of Upside Down. The film is set to hit the big screen in year 2011.
