John Hurt’s Biography and PicturesJohn Hurt is an English actor, who is most notable for the portrayal of John Merrick in the 1980 drama film entitled, The Elephant Man. He was born on January 22, 1940 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, to Phyllis and Arnould Herbert Hurt, an amateur actress and an Anglican clergyman. He was baptized with the real name of John Vincent Hurt and has an adopted sister named Monica. In addition, Hurt entered the St. Michael’s preparatory School, where he showed interest for acting, eventually decided that he wanted to be an actor, appearing in the school production called The Bluebird. At the young age of 12, Hurt became one of the boarders of the Christ’s Hospital School in Lincoln because he failed to pass he entrance exam in the school of his brother. He frequently go with his mother to Cleethorpes Repertory Theater but his mother and father did not like his dream to be an actor, instead his parents convinced him to be an art teacher. When he reached the age of 17, Hurt entered the Grimsby Art School, where he took art. In year 1959, Hurt received a scholarship, giving him a permission to study for an Art Teachers Diploma (ATD) at the Central St. Martins College, which is located in Holborn, London. In year 1990, Hurt had a scholarship to RADA, where he was trained for two years

Subsequently, Hurt portrayed small roles in TV. On the hand, his first film was in the 19962 British drama film called, The Wild and the Willing and his first major role was in the 1966 film of A Man for All Seasons, where he portrayed the role of Richard Rich. He was also included in the ensemble of Quentin Crisp’s play called, The Naked Civil Servant, where he earned a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. he then appeared in the 1978 film of Midnight Express, where he portrayed the role of Max, which garnered him a Golden Globe Award and BAFTA and was also nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actor. In year 1980, Hurt starred in the drama film of The Elephant Man, which also starred David Lynch and Anthony Hopkins. His portrayal on the film earned him a BAFTA and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the Best Actor. He then lent his voice for the role of Horned King in the a1985 animated film of The Black Cauldron. In year 1990, Hurt appeared as Bird O’Donnell in the film adaptation of the play of John B. Keane entitled, The Field. On the same year, he portrayed the role of Dr. Joe Buchanan in the horror film of Frankenstein Unbound.

On the following year, Hurt was included in the ensemble of the 1991 short film called, I Dream I Woke Up. In year 1993, Hurt portrayed the role of The Countess in the film entitled, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, which also starred Uma Thurman. In year 1995, Hurt appeared in five films, Two Nudes Bathing, Saigon Baby, Rob Roy, Dead Man and Wild Bill.

In year 1998, Hurt appeared in the feature film called, All the Little Animals, where he portrayed the role of Mr. Summers, together with Christian Bale. On the following year, he starred in the 1999 film entitled, The Climb, where he portrayed the role of Chuck Langer. In year 2000, he appeared as Father Lareaux in the horror film of Last Souls. Hurt was also included in the casts of the superhero film of Hellboy, where he portrayed the role of Professor Trevor ‘Boom’ Bruttenholm, alongside Ron Perlman and Selma Blair. He then appeared as Christopher in the film of Shooting Dogs. In year 2008, Hurt starred together with Elijah Wood and Leonor Watling in the film entitled, the oxford Murders, where he portrayed the role of Arthur Seldom. In year 2010, Hurt played the role of Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-part 1 and it Part 2, which was released I July 2011. He also appeared in the 2011 film of Melancholia, alongside Kristen Dunst. He was also includes in the 2011 film called, Tnker Tailor Soldier Spy. In addition, Hurt is set to appear in the upcoming film of Immortals, where he will be portraying the role of Old Zeus.
