The 21-year-old American recording artist was born on December 22, 1989 in Phoenix Arizona, to Jodi Weidman Sparks and Phillippi Sparks, who is a previous professional football player.  Sparks, who has a younger brother named, Phillippi PJ Sparks Jr., was baptized with the real name of Jordin Brianna Sparks. She grew up in the suburbs of Ridgewood in New Jersey. After she and her family lived in New Jersey, Sparks entered the Northwest Community Christian School in Phoenix until her eighth grade. She also attended the Sandra Day O’Connor High School until the year of 2006.

Prior to her appearance in the reality show of American Idol, Jordin Sparks has already been participating in various talent competitions, where she always won. She also competed in the competition shows like CoCa-Cola’s Rising Star and in the Gospel Music Association Academy Overall Spotlight Award. She also participated in the talent show of America’s Most Talented Kids and Colgate Country Showdown and in the 2006 Dug Free a Superstar Search. Before Sparks joined the American Idol show, she was always invited to sing the national anthem some of the local sporting events, which is most notable in the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In year 2006, Jordin Sparks auditioned twice for the sixth season of the reality show of the American idol. Her first try out took place in Los Angeles and was followed in Seattle. Her audition in Seattle, earned her the golden ticket for the Hollywood. After giving her very best to the said show, Sparks won the title of the Sixth American Idol on May 23, 2007. Since her win in 2007, Sparks has already returned for the show for five times now.

After winning the title of the American Idol in year 2007, Sparks signed on to the 19 Recordings/Jive Record. It was said that she was the first American Idol winner to sign for the said label. On the same year, she released her debut single called, Tattoo, which landed on the number eight spot of the Billboard Hot 100 list. Her song entitled Tattoo turned to be a platinum single across the United States and Australia. O the same year, she unleashed her self-titled album, which landed on the number one spot of the Billboard 200. Her third single album entitled, One Step at a Time, was released on June 2008 and landed on the 17th spot of the Billboard Hot 100. It was said that the song was the fourth top twenty hit on the chart of Jordin Sparks.

In October 2010, Sparks stated in one of her interviews that she is now working on her third studio album. She also said that she will be recording her third album in New York and in Arizona. Recently this year, Spark was rumored for working for new songs together with John Legend, she recorded the song called, the World I Knew for the film of African Cats in March 2011. On May 2011, she performed on the American Idol top four results show and has also performed on the Regis and Kelly on June 14.
