Josh Groban is an American singer-songwriter who was born on February 27, 1981 and was baptized with the name Joshua Winslow Groban. This young man originally studied acting joining theatrical arts at a very young age. In late 1998, the 17-year old male artist was introduced by his vocal coach to Grammy-winning producer David Foster and future manager Brian Avnet.

In January 1999, Groban was offered to stand-in for Andrea Bocelli in the annual Grammy Awards where he rehearsed Foster’s The Prayer with Celine Dion. He also appeared on the Ally McBeal show, portraying the character of Malcolm Wyatt, which was especially created for him by David E. Kelley in 2001. His manager, Avnet, claimed that this sequence of events effectively got Groban’s career off the ground.

Offered a recording contract with Warner Bros., Josh decided to pursue his promising signing career and dropped out from Carnegie Mellon University. On November 20, 2001, Josh self-titled debut album was released. Over the following year, it went from gold to double platinum. He also collaborated with various artists such as Charlotte Church, The Corrs, Ronan Keating, Lionel Richie and Sting.

In 2003, Groban’s second album Closer was released, which was believed to be a better reflection of him. In fact, in an exclusive interview with the singer, he said that what most people know about him was known through his music. As the title connotes, all the songs included in the album is a giant step closer to who he really is and what his music is all about. Two months after it’s released, Closer peaked to Billboard charts from number 11 to number one spot.

Some of the popular performances of Groban include You Raise Me Up, Remember, Believe, The Polar Express and My December. In 2004, Josh was nominated for Favorite Male Artist in the pop category at the American Music Awards. In the same year, he also received other musical recognitions including nominations from World Music Award, Academy Award and a Grammy. During the first week of September 2006, Groban’s single You Are Loved (Don’t Give Up) was released exclusively in AOL’s First Listen.

On November 15, 2010, Josh released his very first studio album entitled Illuminations wherein most of the tracks were about specific situations that he had written where love has existed and ultimately failed. Beginning May 12, 2011, Groban is scheduled to embark on a worldwide tour entitled Straight to You to promote Illuminations. Josh is also casted in a comedy film called Crazy, Stupid, Love, which is set for release on July 29, 2011.
