Julianne Moore is a American actress, who was born on December 3, 1960 in Fort Bragg, near Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Anne McNeil McLean and Peter Moore Smith, a psychiatric social worker and an army colonel. She was born with the real name of Julie Anne Smith and has a younger sister named Valerie and a younger brother named Peter Moore Smith III, who is a novelist. Growing up as an “army brat”, she lived in various places in the United States and Germany. She also entered the J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church Virginia and Frankfurt, Germany, where she graduated in year 1979. She then earned her bachelor’s degree at the College of Fine Arts at the Boston University.

She subsequently relocated to New York City in year 1983, where she was employed as a waitress and made a short performance before she was included in the casts of the soap opera called, As the World Turns, where she portrayed the role of Frannie Hughes and Sabrina Hughes. Her portrayal on the said soap earned her a Daytime Emmy Award. In addition, Moore portrayed the role of Frannie and Sabrina Hughes from the year 1985 up to the year 1988. In year 1987, she became part of the junior company in the New York premiere of Caryl Churchill’s Serious Money at The Public Theater. She appeared in supporting roles like in the films of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle as well in the romantic comedy film called, Benny & Joon, where she portrayed the role of Ruthie.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Moore appeared in various films that earned Oscar recognition, which also includes her portrayal in the 1997 drama film of Boogie Nights, where she portrayed the role of Amber Waves. She then appeared in the 1999 film called, The End of the Affair, where she earned a nomination for the category for the Best Supporting Actress. On the other hand, Moore in two different films in year 2002 entitled, The Hours and Far From Heaven. On the following year, the British daily newspaper called, The Guardian, made an affirmation that Moore is the most talented actress in her generation.

In November 2006, Moore had her first Broadway appearance in the world premiere of David Hare’s new play called, the Vertical hour, which has been directed by Sam Mendes. On the same year she starred in three films, the Freedomland, Trust the Man and Children of Men. In year 2008, she starred together with Mark Ruffalo in the 2008 film of Blindness. On the following year, she appeared alongside Colin Firth in the American drama entitled, A Single Man, where she earned her fifth Golden Globe nomination. She also appeared as a guest star Nancy Donovan in the 2009-2010 seasons of the American TV series of 30 Rock. In July 2011, Moore appeared in the comedy film of the romantic comedy film of Crazy, Stupid, Love, which starred Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.
