Kate Mara is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal of Alma Del Mar Jr. in the romantic drama film of Brokeback Mountain. She was born on February 27, 1983 in Bedford, New York, to Timothy Christopher Mara and Kathleen McNulty. She had the combination of Italian and Irish descent and has an older brother named Daniel and two young sisters named Conor and Patricia Ronney Mara, who is also an actress. Mara wanted to be an actress after seeing Les Miserables at a young age, she affirmed that she fell in love with Broadway and musicals. On the other hand, at the young age of nine, Mara started on acting in some school productions as well as attending various youth theater-arts schools and also appeared n community theatre. At the age of 14, Mara made her professional acting career. After she failed to get the role  she auditioned in the TV drama of Homicide: Life on the Street, she entered the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and took musical theater. She also entered and graduated from the Fox Lane High School.

On the other hand, un year 1997, Mara had her first TV role, which is said to be in the TV series of Law & Order. She then appeared as a guest star in several TV series, which also includes her appearance in the TV comedy of Madigan Men and in Ed. She then earned two repeating roles in year 2003, the role of Kate in the drama series called, Everwood and as Vanessa in Nip/Tuck. Nevertheless, Mara has also appeared in the TV series of Cold Case and Boston Public as well as in CSI: Miami and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Moreover, Mara had her film debut when she portrayed the role of Jessica Chandler in the 1999 film called, Radom Hearts, together with the star of Harrison Ford. On the same year, she appeared in the drama film of Joe The King, which includes the stars Noah Fleiss and Val Kilmer.

In year 2002, she portrayed the role of Miranda Spear in the romantic comedy film entitled, Tadpole, which also starred Aaron Stanford and Beber NeuWirth as well as Sigourney Weaver. In year 2005, Mara starred in the horror film entitled, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, where she portrayed the role of Samantha Owens. In year 2007, she appeared in the comedy film of Full of It, as well as in the thriller film of Shooter.  On the following year, she starred on the comedy film of Stone of Destiny, where Mara portrayed the role of Kay Matheson. In year 2009, Mara appeared as Lucy in the comedy-drama film of The Open Road, which also starred Jeff Bridges and Justin Timberlake. In year 2010, Mara also appeared in the film of 127 Hours. Mara has recently appeared in the 2011 action film of Ironclad. In addition, Mara is set to appear in the upcoming film of Blackbird, which also includes Olivia Wilde.
