Hollywood actress, Kate Winslet shared her experience on the fire she encountered at the Necker Island when she saved Richard Branson’s grandmother.  Surprisingly, hearing her tell the story was quite funny.  Winslet said that it was genuinely very scary.  They did wake up at 4:30 in the morning to hear the sounds of some of Richard’s nephew’s voices yelling that there was a fire.  She said she jumped up and ran immediately towards the fire, because clearly she thought she could put it out.  After realizing that was not the safest idea, she turned back around to find her children, Mia, 10, and Joe, 7.

According to Winslet her children were standing at their bedroom door, and she said to them that what is going on is a fire and it is fine.  She then directed them to go back inside just for two minutes and just close the door.  After that, she said she thought of what to do next.  She thought of running into the bedroom and putting on a bra.  In a disastrous moments like that you do the strangest things so she started putting on a bra and then thought that is going to take her too long, off came the bra, on with the T-shirt, grabbed the bag, grabbed the children and picked up granny.

The incident that Kate Winslet was talking about was the fire that happened last August during which Hurricane Irene battered the luxury Carribean Home of Sir Richard Branson at the Necker Island, which is a private property of Sir Branson that is worth £60million.  The house was said to be strucked by lightning.  Branson credited Winslet with saving his 90-year old mother, Eve, from the house fire.  Winslet, 35, was among the 20 guests who were staying in Branson’s fourteen-bedroom “Great House” on the exclusive resort when the fire broke out around 4:00am.  Sir Richard, 61, was staying in another villa around 100 yards away with his wife Joan and son Sam and apparently ran naked towards the flames shortly after 4am.

Sir Branson in a statement said that he’s mom was 90 and can walk but it is more just to speed the process up than else and said that Winslet was great.  According to Sir Branson she swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible.  She had been staying at the luxury compound with her daughter Mia, 10, and son Joe, 7, as personal guests of Branson’s.  Each of the 20 houseguests staying at the complex was able to leave the burning house in safety.

While Sir Branson has lost thousands of important photographs and notebooks, he said that he intends to stay on the island and rebuild the house as soon as possible.  He said he is doing it for the staff that he wants to stay on their works and despite the great damage of the house they will create something even more special out of the ruins.
