Katie Holmes is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal of Joey Potter in the TV series called, Dawson’s Creek. She was born on December 18, 1978 in Toledo Ohio, to Kathleen A. and Martin Joseph Holmes, a homemaker and an attorney. She was baptized with the real name of Kate Noelle “Katie” Holmes, she entered the Christ the King Church as well as the parochial schools in Toledo. She then had her high school years in the exclusive school of Notre Dame Academy, where she became a  4.0 student. She also entered the St, John’s Jesuit, where she joined some of the school’s production, which also includes a role on the production of Hell, Dolly!, portraying the role of a waiter. Holmes was also accepted in Columbia University, where she took summer classes. At the young age of fourteen, Holmes started on attending classes at a modeling school on Toledo, manages by Margaret O’Brien. O’Broen was the one who took Holmes to the International Modeling and Talent Association Competition, which was initially held in New York City in year 1996.

She then found an agent after she performed a monologue from the film/novel called, To Kill a Mockingbird. She then included in the casts of the film The Ice Storm, where she portrayed the role of Libbets Casey. She was originally offered to portray the lead role in the TV series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer bu she turned it down because of schedule conflicts. She then auditioned through videotaped for the role of Joey Potter, who is the tomboy best friend of the lead role in the TV series of Dawson’s Creek. The producer and the creators of the show were impressed by the skill of Holmes and eventually gave the part to her. In year 1998, Holmes had her first lead role when she portrayed Rachel Wagner in the thriller film called, Disturbing Behavior. Her portrayal on the film earned her the MTV Movie Award Best Breakthrough Performance.

On the following year, Holmes appeared in the comedy and thriller film entitled, Go. she then included in the casts of the 2000 film of Wonder Boys, where she portrayed the role of Hannah Green. On the same year, she appeared in The Gift, alongside Cate Blanchett. In year 2003, Holmes appeared as Nurse Mills in the film of The Singing Detective as well as in the 2003 film of Pieces of April, which also starred Derek Luke and Oliver Platt. She then included in the ensemble of the 2005 film of Batman Begins, where she portrayed the role of Rachel Dewes. In year 2008, Holmes appeared in the films of Mad Mone and Eli Stone, as Jackie Truman and Grace, respectively. In year 2010, Holmes portrayed the role of Laura in the romantic comedy film called, The Romantics, which also starred Josh Duhamel and Anna Paquin. Holmes recently appeared in the 2011 horror film entitled, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, where she portrayed the role of Kim. She was also included in the miniseries of The Kennedys. In addition, Holmes is set to appear in the upcoming comedy film of Jack & Jill, alongside Adam Sandler.

The 32-year-old actress, Katie Holmes is featured in the cover of the November 2011 issue of Marie Claire magazine wearing a red leather jacket.  The gorgeous actress sported her signature coy smile on the front page while opening up about her work and her role as a mom to her beautiful ever-growing daughter, Suri Cruise.  Suri is Katie’s daughter to the Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise.  In her new interview with the magazine, Katie revealed that she shares some common things with other working moms – a struggle to balance life with family and career.

Since work is keeping Katie busy, it is difficult for her to occupy her daughter.  She explains to the magazine that her daughter was with her the other day at a work event and it was a long day.  She took out some paper and markers that she had in her bag and someone said to her that it is so cute.  She looked at her and thought that it is not cute since it is what all mothers have to do.  The actress realize as well that being in the Hollywood spotlight have some  advantages for Suri.  She said that being around in this business allows her daughter to be exposed to people with incredible talent, people who are the best at what they do, people whom she only dreamed of getting to work with when she was a little girl.

Katie’s mom, who raised her in Toledo, Ohio, was the one she relies into when she have questions about parenting.  She said that when she is at a loss, she always come back to her mother, on what would her mother say or what would she do?  she also confessed that she always bring a snack and a coloring book for her daughter.  On her transition from work and family life, the actress she explained that it is because he have to, as an actress who is also a mother, she do not have the luxury of drama.

On her plans for her career and her daughter, Katie said that she feels ready and she is excited to begin a new phase: roles that she might have been afraid to play before and places that she want to travel with her daughter.  She would like to build a design business as well but not too fast.  The actress also have thoughts on simplifying her life saying that she was thinking about getting rid of her mobile phone and asking that wouldn’t it be great to have an old-fashioned phone sheet, going to office, making calls and then continuing your day.
