Kim Delaney is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal of Detective Diane Russell in the drama series called, NYPD Blue. She was born on November 29, 1961 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Joan and Jack Delaney, a homemaker and a former head of the United Auto Workers. In addition, Delaney was raised as a Roman Catholic, grew up in Roxborough, and has four siblings named Ed, john and Keith as well as Patrick. While she was still in J. W. Hallahan Catholic Gils High School, she worked as a model for the Elite agency. After she graduated, she moved to New York and had an employment as a model as well. she also studied acting together with William Esper. On the other hand, Delaney earned much attention when she portrayed the role of Jenny Gardner Nelson in the soap opera entitled, All My children, which was also her first professional acting job. Delaney portrayed the role from year 1981 up to the year 1984, garnering Daytime Emmy Award nomination.
After she left the show, she started on appearing in various films. in year 1985, she appeared together with Emilio Estevez in That Was Then, This is Now, which is a film adaptation of the S.E Hinton of the book of the same name. In year 1986, he portrayed the role of a nun in the action film called, The Delta Force, which also starred Chuck Norris. In year 1987, she appeared as Amanda Jones in the romantic film entitled, Some Kind of Wonderland, which also starred Peter Gallagher. However, the film director made some cast changes and both roles were recast with Lea Thompson and Craig Sheffer. In year 1987, she portrayed the role of Jessie in the film of Christmas Comes to Willow Creek. In year 1994, she appeared in the thriller film called, The Force, where she portrayed the role of Sarah Flynn, together with Yasmine Bleeth and Jason Gedrick. On the following year, she started on portraying the role of Detective Diane Russell in the TV series of NYPD Blue. For her portrayal on the TV series, she had her first Emmy Award for the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama and was also nominated for another two Emmy Awards.
She the starred in the 2994 NBC miniseries of 10.5 and its sequel on year 2006 entitled, 10.5 Apocalypse, where she portrayed the role of Dr. Samantha ‘Sam’ Hill. On the following year, she started on portraying a recurring role in the teen drama called, The O.C. in year 2006, she starred together with Steven Weber in one of the episodes of Nightmares and Dreamscape: From the Stories of Stephen King entitled, You Know They Got a Hell of a Band. She then appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. On the other hand, Delaney is currently portrays the role of Claudia Joy Holden in the TV series of Army Wives.
