Kylie Ann Minogue is an Australian singer-songwriter, fashion designer, and an actress. She was born on May 28, 1968 in Melbourne, Australia. She was the eldest child of Ronald Charles Minogue who is an accountant and Carol Ann Jones, a former dancer in Wales. Her siblings were Dannii Minogue who was also a pop singer and a judge in “The X Factor” and Brendan Minogue who is a news cameraman in Australia. She was raised in Surrey Hills in Melbourne, Australia. Kylie attended at Camberwell high School.
Kylie appeared in Australian television at the age of 11 in then soap operas “The Sullivans” and “Skyways”. Minogue was also casted as one of the lead roles in “The Henderson Kids”. In 1985, Kylie had her first television singing performance in the “Young Talent Time” where in her sister Dannii is a regular performer. She was also casted in the soap opera which was entitled “Neighbours” in year 1986. She played the role of Charlene Mitchell who was a schoolgirl which later became a garage mechanic. She gained popularity in Australia when she became the first person to win the four Logie Awards in just one event, and also youngest recipient of the country’s “Most Popular Television Performer”.
In 1987, Minogue signed a contract in Mushroom Records. Her first single was “The Loco-Motion” remained at number one spot in Australian Music Charts for seven weeks. It sold 200,000 copies after it’s released and became the highest single in 1980s. She earned the ARIA Award for this single. Minogue’s first debut album was entitled “Kylie” which was a collection of dance-oriented pop tunes. It was released on July 4, 1988. The album was certified gold in the United States.
In the year 1989, she released her second album which was entitled “Enjoy Yourself”. It gained success in United Kingdom, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Minogue’s next album was released on November 12, 1990 entitled “Rhythm of Love”. The album presented the adult style of dance music. Her single “Better the Devil you Know” became her first single. She had a romantic relationship with Michael Hutchence whom she gets her inspiration. When Australian artist Nick Cave heard the single “Better the Devil you Know”, he expressed his aspiration to collaborate with the singer. They collaborated in the song “Where the Wild Roses Grow” in the year 1995.
Minogue’s prominence started to decline when she was accused of not paying her dues. She was also regarded as a gay icon because of her gay audience. She was also compared to Madonna during her entire career.
Minogue was diagnosed on having breast cancer on May 17, 2005. It led to cancellation of the remainder show of “Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour” and her withdrawal as the act in Glastonbury Festival in the year 2005. Her treatment resulted in excessive media coverage supporting the Australian singer. She underwent surgery on May 21, 2005 at Cabrini Hospital and later had chemotherapy.
She was able to appear to public after the surgery on July 8, 2005. She visited the children’s cancer ward in Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. In an interview in “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, she revealed that her cancer has been misdiagnosed. In October 2011, she received an honorary “Doctor of Health Science” (D.H.Sc.) degree in the United Kingdom because of her promotion in breast cancer awareness.
