Leona Louis Lewis is a British songwriter who earned her prominence in 2006 when she won the third series of the television series “The X Factor”. She was born on April 3, 1985 in Islington, London, England. Her parents were Aural Josiah Lewis and Maria Lewis. She attended Sylvia Young Theatre, Italia Conti Academy and the BRIT School. Lewis was able to write her full-length song at the age of 12. Her main influences were Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, and Eva Cassidy. Lewis lived with her boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa until their break up in June 2010. She was a vegetarian since the age of 12. In 2008, Lewis won PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian and named as PETA’s Person of the Year. Lewis was named as the Europe’s Sexiest Vegetarian in the year 2009. She was an advocate of the “World Society for the Protection of Animals” and the patron of Hopefield Animal Sanctuary.

Lewis recorded a demo album entitled “Twilight”. It was comprised of her compositions and the album was under Spiral Music. However, none of her songs bring her to fame. Lewis’ boyfriend convinced her to audition in “The X Factor”. She auditioned in the third series of UK’s The X Factor where she sang “Over the Rainbow”. Lewis was able to bring home the bacon on December 16, 2006.

Her debut single “A Moment Like This” was officially released on December 20, 2006 and became in digital in the midnight of December 17. It was downloaded 50,000 times in just a span of thirty minutes. The song became the 2006 UK Christmas number one single where it sold 571,253 copies. It was the most downloaded song in the year 2006.

In February 2007, Lewis signed $9.7 million five-album contract in the United States in the record label “J Records” owned by Clive Davis. It was released on November 2007 which reached the top spot in Irish and UK Album Chart. It became the United Kingdom’s fourth fastest selling album of all time. Her second single was entitled “Bleeding Love” which was produced by Ryan Tedder, the song was written by Jesse McCartney and Tedder. It was released in October 2007 in the United Kingdom. It sold 218,805 copies for its first week. It reached the number one spot in UK Singles Chart where it stayed for seven weeks while it became number one in Irish Singles chart for eight weeks. The song won “The Record of the Year” in December 2007. The third single was “Better in Time” and “Footprints in the Sand” which was released on March 2008 in the United Kingdom. Lewis earned three nominations for the 51st Grammy Awards in the year December 2008. The song “Bleeding Love” was nominated as the “Record of the Year” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance”. Her album “Spirit” was nominated as “Best Pop Vocal Album”.

Her second album was entitled “Echo” which was released in November 2009. The first single was entitled “Happy” which was released on September 15, 2009. Her second single was entitled “I Got You” which was released on February 2010.

Lewis’ third studio album was entitled “Glassheart”. She worked with various writers and producers such as Ammo, Jonas Quant, Chuck Harmony, and Ne-yo. The first single in the album was entitled “Collide”, it is a dance-pop anthem which was written by Autumn Rowe and produced by Sandy Vee.
