The 53-year-old pop star very nearly exposed herself on the cover of ‘Girl Gone Wild, the second single off her forthcoming studio album MDNA, which was born from the remote reunion of two Italian producers and a Canadian writer, all signed to Patrick Moxey’s Ultra Music. The barely-there outfit is to be expected of a woman who repeatedly sings about sex in songs like “Like a Virgin,” “Justify My Love,” and “Erotica.”
Madonna wears little more than lingerie on the cover, which was released today. The black, triangle-shaped lace bra doesn’t hide much and very nearly leaves the superstar exposed. She does not cover up in other articles of clothing, either, flaunting most of trim and toned stomach. Her mouth is open in a suggestive pose, and her blonde locks are artfully tousled. Everything about the cover is suggestive, including the title.
Girls Gone Wild is, quite famously, a video series created by Joe Francis where college-age girls perform various sexual acts on camera. Madonna’s new electro pop single even seems to be channeling the films with her lyrics. She sings that ‘girls just want to have fun’ and ‘get fired up like a smoking gun’ and though she realizes that she ‘shouldn’t act this way’ because ‘good girls don’t misbehave’, she’s a ‘bad girl anyway.’ Francis, too, thought that Madonna’s song was much too similar to his famous brand, and demanded that she change the title of the track, which originally had the same name as his company. He also sent her a cease and desist letter to prevent her from singing the song at the Super Bowl. The 38-year-old entrepreneur told TMZ that clearly her label was trying to avoid legal action surrounding the song but is still infringement as far as the law is concerned and they have been in touch with Madonna’s people in an effort to resolve the issue. He added that he will pursue legal action if Madonna and her team do not make additional changes to the title.
The track, which was recorded in London, was produced by electronic star Benny Benassi and written by Jenson Vaughan. This sexual single rides hard and fast on the heels of Give Me All Your Luvin’ which was her first single off of her twelfth studio album. She debuted the song, which features cameos by Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.during the Super Bowl halftime show earlier this month. The mid-tempo, four-on-the-floor party track is a tougher take on the style of Madge’s 2005 effort, “Confessions On A Dancefloor,” produced by Stuart Price who said that it is undeniably dance, but with stronger electro than house markings. According to him, MDNA in totality will probably be more diverse, featuring the production of disco house champion Martin Solveig on four tracks, and the darker, trance-ier William Orbit on five.
Looking toward the release of the “GGW” video, Moxey said that he is not concerned with a reported lawsuit from Joe Francis, creator of the “Girls Gone Wild” series of co-ed flasher videos. He said that when he looked at ASCAP, he noticed that there were approximately 50 records called “Girls Gone Wild,” adding that this guy just thinks too much of himself. The album will hit stores on March 26; the accompanying world tour kicks off in Israel on May 29.
