The 46-year-old American actress was born on August 2, 1964 inFort Jackson, South Carolina, to Caroline and John Parker, a Swedish Descent and a judge who served in the U.S Army. Parker spent most of her childhood in Tennessee and Texas as well in Thailand, Germany and France because of the profession of his father. She attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, where she took major in drama.
Parker debuted on the soap opera called, Ryan’s Hope. Parker relocated to New York in late 1980’s, where she had a job measuring feet at ECCO. After taking a small roles, Parker made her Broadway debut in s production of Craig Lucas called, Perlude to a kiss in the year 1990, where she portrayed the role of Rita. She moved together with the production when it was relocated from its initial Off-Broadway. The production garnered her Clarence Dewent Award and even earned a nomination for a Tony Award, even though she did not portray the role on its film adaptation. During that time, she and the actor Timothy Hutto were dating.
Her role on the said production was followed by her appearance in the film of Grand Canyon in year 1991, which also includes the stars of Mary McDonnel and Danny Glover and well as Alfre Woodard and Kevin Kline. Her next movie was the Fried Green Tomatoes, together with Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kathy Bates and cicely Tyson.
In year 2001, Parker starred together with Larry Bryggman in the play of David Auburn called Proof, which garnered her Tony Award. However, she was not included in the film adaptation of the broadway play. After that, Parker left the theater for almost three years for her to search for the other roles and some of them are the 2002 Red Dragon and Pipe Dream. Parker had a guest role in the TV show of NBC called The West Wing, where she portrayed the role of the activist Amelia ‘Amy’ Gardner. Her acting performance on the show earned her nominations for the Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
In November 2005, was credited with an exhibition of her career at the Boston University, where some of her memorabilia coming from her career were donated to the library of the said University. On the other hand, she earned the 2006 Golden Globe Award for the Best performance by an Actress in a Television Series- Musical or comedy. She portrayed the lead role in the TV film called Robber Bride in March 2007. She also appeared in the 2008 film of The Spiderwick Chronicles as well in the off broadway’s Playwrights Horizons I the New York debut of the Dead Man’s Cell Phone. In addition, Parker portrayed the role of Sarah, together with Bruce Willis in the 2010 film of Red, which is the adaptation of the mini-series book of the same name. it was said that the film released on October 2010.
