Maura Tierney is an American actress, who is most notable for the portrayal of Abby Lockhart in the TV series entitled, ER. Tierney was born on February 3, 1965 in Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, where she was raised. She is the lovely daughter of Pat and Joseph, a real etate broker and a former Boston City Council. In addition, Tierney entered the Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Massachusetts, where she took drama that led her to have an appearance at the Boston Globe Drama Festival. After Tierney graduated, she enrolled at the New York University, where she took major in dance and later changed it to drama. After she had an appearance in various play productions, she relocated to Los Angeles, California. In year 1987, she had her initial break when she earned a spot in the TV film of Disney entitled, Student Exchange.
On the other hand, Tierney had her first starring role in the independent film of Dead Women in Lingerie. She then continued on portraying small roles in both films and TV, until she portrayed the lead role in the sitcom called, NewsRadio, for the year 1995 up to the year 1999. While she was still appearing on the said sitcom, Tierney appeared in the films of Primal Fear and Forces of Nature, where she portrayed the role of Bridget. She was also included in the casts of the film of Liar Liar, where she then portrayed the role of Audrey Reede, together with Jim Carrey and Justin Cooper as well as Cary Elwes and Ann Haney. On the other hand, after the sitcom of News Radio has been pulled out on air, Tierney comes up into a decision on not to pursue a role in another sitcom.
Moreover, Tierney portrayed the role of Nurse Abigail “Abby” Lockhart in the TV series of ER. Her portrayal garnered her a nomination for n Emmy Award. On the other hand, in year 2008, she affirmed that she will leave the said TV series after the show has shortly started their fifteenth season. On October of the same year, she had her last appearance. However, she still had a short appearance in one of the show’s episodes. Also, in year 2008, she appeared in the films of Semi-Pro and Baby Mama as well as in The Go-Getter and Finding Amanda, where she portrayed the role of Lorraine Mendon. On the same year, she portrayed the role of Laurel in the Off Broadway production called, Three Changes, which also includes Dylan McDermott. On the following year, Tierney made her return on TV, portraying the recurring role of Kelly McPhee in one of the TV series of FX network entitled, Rescue Me. In year 2011, she debuted at the Gate Theatre, Dublin in the premiere of God of Carnage, together with Ardal O’Hanlon.
