Meg Ryan was baptized with the real name of Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra. She was born on November 19, 1961 in Bethel, Connecticut, to Susan Jordan and Harry Hyra, a former actress and a Math teacher. Ryan was raised as a Roman Catholic and graduated from the Saint Plus X Elementary School, in Fairfield. She also graduated from the Bethel High School in year 1979. She then went to take journalism at the University of Connecticut as well in the New York University, while she was working as an actress to earn extra income. However, the success she earned led her to leave the college a semester before graduating.
After she appeared in the 1981 film of Rich and Famous, Ryan was included in the daytime drama called, As the World Runs, where she portrayed the role of Betsy Stewart from the year 1982 up to the year 1984. She was then featured in various film and small movie roles, which also includes her portrayal in the horror film entitled, Amityville 3-D and the 1987 film of the Promised Land, which garnered her Independent Spirit Award nomination. In year 1986, Meg Ryan portrayed the role of Carole Bradshaw in the action film of Top Gun. On the other hand, Meg Ryan portrayed the role of Lydia Maxwell in the film entitled, Innerspace, which also includes the actor Dennis Quaid. She subsequently appeared in the remake of D.O.A as well in the action film of The Presido, where she portrayed the role of Donna Caldwell.
She made her breakthrough performance, when she portrayed the leading role of Sally Albright in the 1989 romantic film called, When Harry Met Sally, which also starred Billy Crystal, who portrayed the role of Harry. In year 1994, Meg Ryan appeared in the film of When a Man Loves a Woman, where she portrayed the role of Alice Green. In year 1997, she was chosen to voice for the lead character in the animated film of Anastasia. On the following year, she appeared together with Sean Penn in the 1998 independent film of Hurlyburly. In year 2003, Ryan left her usual roles, starring together with Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Jason Leigh in the thriller film of In The Cut. She then portrayed the lead role of Jackie Kallen in the 2004 drama film of Against the Ropes.
In year 2007, Ryan was included in the casts of the American drama film of In The Land of Women, where she portrayed the role of Sarah Hardwicke. It was then followed by her appearance in the 2008 film called, the Deal. On the same year, Ryan appeared in various films. In year 2009, she starred together with Kirsten Bell and Justin Long in the comedy film of Serious Moonlight. On following year, she was included in the casts of the drama called, Lives of the Saints. On April 2011, it was announced that Meg Ryan will make her feature film directing entitled, Into the Beautiful. In addition, Ryan was recently been in talks to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the book Angel Angel of April Stevens entitled, Long Time Gone.
