Mel Gibson is an Australian-American actor, a film director and producer as well as screen writer, who was born on January 3, 1956 at Peeksill, New York to Hutton Gibson and Anne Patricia. He was baptized with the real name of Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson; his first name was derived from Saint Mel. Gibson is the sixth of the 11 children of his parents. One of his brothers was his fellow actor, Donal. When he was on the young age of 12, he moved in together with his parents to Sydney, Australia. He studied acting at the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art.
After he completed his college, Mel Gibson appeared in a few stints up on the stage and also includes some of the TV shows and sooner or later, he was selected to appear on the 1979 film of Mad Matrix and in the film called, Tim, alongside Piper Laurie. His film, Mad Matrix has been recognized internationally, while the film of Tim earned him an honor for the category for the Best Actor from the Australian Film Institute.
In year 1997, he landed on the 12th spot of the Empire magazine’s The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time list and was picked by the renowned People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world in year 1996.
On 1981, he appeared in the film entitled, Gallipoli, which earned him his second award for the Best actor from AFI. In year 1980, he tied the tknot together with Robyn Moore and had seven children. In year 2000, Gibson appeared in three films, each earned over $100 Million. After two years, he also starred in the Vietnam War drama called, We Were Soldiers and Signs of M. Night Shyamalan. The said film became the highest earning amount on the history of his career. He made his first ever starring role since year 2002 when he starred on the film of Edge of Darkness.
In 2005, he placed on the 15th and 17th spot of the Power 50 list. On the following year, he was reportedly turned down the offer for the role of Sgt. John McLoughlin in the World Trade Center, for him to have the opportunity to direct Apocalypto on the same year.
On July 2006, Gibson was arrested for allegedly drunk driving in Malibu, California. He executed probation for three years as the result for his misbehavior. On August of the same year, he voluntarily entered a recovery program for alcohol issue and on the same month, his wife Roblyn, separated from him.
Mel Gibson was recently appeared on the Jodie Foster’s directed film of The Bevear. The film debuted at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin On March 16, 2011. The film’s opening weekend in almost 22 theaters are considered to be a flop because of the reason that the film only earned an amount of $104,000, it only shows that per theater average of the show is $4,745.
