Michelle Duggar, star of “19 Kids and Counting,” recently found out through a doctor’s visit that she has miscarried her 20th child during the second trimester. According to People.com, Michelle Duggar, 45, went in Thursday for a routine checkup so as to find out the sex of her baby. However, the doctor was not able to find a heartbeat for the unborn child and told Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar that they had miscarries the baby.
Duggar said that after the appointment they returned home to inform their other children. According to her, they had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment. The family still has plans to select a baby name once they know if the baby was male or female, after which a funeral service will be held, People.com reported. According to Duggar, she felt heartbroken telling her children since they all have been so excited about the baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in their arms. She also told People.com that it was the most difficult to deal with. According to her, the Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with him.
The recent miscarriage is Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob’s second, as she lost her baby during her second pregnancy. People.com reported that after the first miscarriage the couple made the decision to leave the number of children they have up to God. Jim Bob told E! News that Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the entire family adding that they are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers but ask for privacy during this difficult time.
The couple welcomed their 19th child, Josie Brooklyn, in 2009, who was born 15 weeks early through c-section. This was because Michelle Duggar had suffered from preeclampsia. She will be 2 on Saturday. Josie weighed only 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth and had to spend another four months in the hospital before she was healthy enough to go home—but mom and dad showed off their now-thriving toddler on Today recently and had said they were excited for No. 20.
Based in Tontitown, Ark., the Duggars are already parents to Joshua, 23 (who is married with two kids of his own), twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3, and Josie, almost 2. Offering an update to her little one on her blog last month, Michelle wrote that a lot of people have asked if they would consider having more children after what they went through with Josie. She said that that experience was one of the scariest things they have ever walked through as a family. According to her, they thanked God and were grateful for the many prayers offered on Josie’s behalf. She added that Josie is a miracle to them and she is their little sunshine noting that she is doing wonderful.
