The American comic actress, who is most notable as one of the casts of the Saturday Night Live from the year 1995 up to year 2001 and for her portrayal in the films of Superstar and Year of the Dog was born on September 16, 1964 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Peg Shannon and James F. Shannon, a teacher and a sales manager. In addition Shannon was born to an Irish American Catholic family. At the young age of four, she was involved in a car accident, which took away the lives of her mother and young sister as well as her cousin. She entered the St. Dominic School in Shaker Heights for grade school and the Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, for her high school years.

Before she was included in the casts of the late-night TV sketch comedy and variety show of Saturday Night Live, Shannon had struggled her career in films, however her well known role was in the 1989 horror film of remake of The Phantom of the Opera, where he portrayed the role of Meg. In year 1991, she made a short appearance in the second season of the TV serial drama show called, Twin Peaks. In year 1993 she portrayed small roles in two episodes of the comedy series of In Living Color and in the fake TV commercials together with Chris Rock as well as in a sketch together with Jim Carrey.

In February 1995, Shannon’s break came, when she was hired as a featured player on the Saturday Night Live, replacing Janeane Garofalo after she left the show amid of its season. On the other hand, Shannon became one of the members of the show to be kept for a long time, together with her fellow stars David Spade, Norm Macdonald, Mark McKinney and Tim Meadows. In year 1997, Shannon appeared in one of the episodes of Seinfield entitled, The Summer of George, where she portrayed the role of Sam. She also had a recurring role in the TV series called, Will & Grace. On the following year, she portrayed the role of Emily Sanderson in the film called, A Night at the Roxbury, which also includes Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan,

In year 2001, Shannon left the Saturday Night Live. In year 2003, she appeared in the romantic comedy film of My Boss’s Daughter as well in the TV remake of The Music Man. In year 2006, she was featured in the film of Marie Antoinette, where she portrayed the role of Aunt Victoire. On the following year, she appeared as a guest star on the ABC’s Pushing Diasies  and in the film of Evan Almighty. In year 2008, she portrayed the role of Kath in the sitcom of Kath $ Kim. She was also included in the casts of the TV series of Glee. On the other hand, Shannon made his first children’s book called, Tilly the Trickster, which is set to release in September 1, 2011.
