The 47-year-old British actor was born on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. At the young age of eight, Stevenson together with his family relocated to Lemington, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England in the year 1972. They then moved to Cramlington, Northumberland, where e was raised. Stevenson, who is the second of the three siblings, was baptized with the name of George Raymond ‘Ray” Stevenson.
Stevenson has already appeared in various films, which is mostly in small roles. He debuted in the 1998 film of the Theory of Flight, where he portrayed a role of a gigolo, together with the lead stars of Kenneth Branagh and Helena Bonham Carter. He then starred in the 2002 film called No Man’s Land, where he portrayed the role of an experienced private, who was forced to assist a novice official.
In year 2004, Ray Stevenson appeared in the film of King Arthur, together with Clive Owen and Keira Knightley. Stevenson played the role of Dagonet, a knight of the round who will give his life just to save all of his people. In 2008, Stevenson had his first ever leading role in the thriller film of Outpost. On the same year, he appeared in the film of Punisher: War Zone which was originally based on Marvel comic character, where he portrayed the role of Frank Castle, “the Punisher”, who is a previous Marine who became a vigilante, after his family was being murdered. He then portrayed the lead antagonist in the comedy film of The Other Guys, together with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell.
Stevenson is most notable for the portrayal of Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO TV series of Rome, where he shares the lead role with the actor, Kevin McKidd. Stevenson appeared as a guest star in the renowned V series such as Walking the Dead and the Murphy’s Law. He had a lead role in the City Central and in the TV series show At Home with the Braitwaiters. Also, he made an appearance in films like the 1995 Some Kind of Life, together with the star of Jane Horrocks. He then appeared in the film of The Return of the Native, together with Catherine eta Jones.
Ray Stevenson recently appeared in the box office hit film of Thor, where he portrayed the role of Volstagg, one of the faithful companions of Thor. In addition, Stevenson will also appear in the 2011 film adaptation of The Three Musketeers, where he will be portraying the role of Porthos. The film is set to direct by Paul W.S. Anderson. On April 2011, Stevenson was included in the casts of the upcoming film of the Single Shot, which will be directing by the film director David Rosenthal. On the other hand, the film was originally based on the novel of the same name, which was penned down by Mathew F. Jones. On July 8, 2011, Ray Stevenson was reportedly joined the casts of the upcoming sequel of G.I. Joe: Strikes of Cobra, where he will be portraying the role of Firefly.
