Robert Carlyle is a Scottish actor, who is most notable for the portrayal in the films of Trainspotting and in The Full Monthy as well as in the TV series of Hamish Macbeth. He was born on April 14, 1961 in Maryhill, Glasgow, to Elizabeth and Joseph Carlyle, a bus company employee and a painter and decorator. He was brought up by I own father, when his mother left them when he was at the young age of four. On the other hand, Carlyle left the school at the age of 16, without any qualifications. He then went to his father to work with him as a painter and a decorator as well. Nevertheless, he still pursued his learning by having night classed at the Cardonald College in Glasgow.
On the other hand, Carlyle became engaged in drama at the Glasgow Arts Centre at the age of 21. He then graduated fro the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In year 1991, Carlyle together with his four friends established a theater company called, Raindog. He then starred in the TV series of The Bill. On the same year, Carlyle appeared on his very first film entitled, Riff-Raff, which was directed by Ken Loach. In year 1994, Carlyle portrayed the role of a gay lover of Father Greg in the British drama film called, Priest. In addition, Carlyle’s first high-profile role was when he protryaed thw role of a murdered Alble Kinsella in an episode of Cracker together with Robbie Coltrante.
After his portrayal on Cracker, Carlyle portrayed the role of Hamish Macbeth in the comedy-drama series of BBC entitled, Hamish Macbeth. In addition, the said series aired for only three seasons from year 1995 up to year 1997. Carlyle subsequently starred in two different films, the drama film of Trainspotting and The Full Monty, where he portrayed the role of Gaz. The film of The Full Monty, garnered him a BAFTA Award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role. Also, in year 1997, he appeared together with Ray Winston in the film entitled, Face.
Furthermore, Carlyle portrayed the role of Malachy McCourt in the film adaptation of Angela’s Ashes in year 1999. He then appeared in Oasis music video for the Little by Little in year 2002. On the following year, Carlyle portrayed the lead role of Adolf Hitler in the miniseries called, Hitler: The Rise of Evil. In year 2006, Carlyle was included in the casts of the Eragon, where he portrayed the villain Durza and on the following year, he portrayed on of the lead roles in the British film of 28 Weeks Later, which also includes Rose Byrne and Jeremy Renner. In year 2008, he also appeared as Dr. Nicholas in the series of Stargate Universe. On the following year, he appeared in the commercial for Johnnie Walker whiskey called, the Man Who Walked around the World. He then voiced the character of Gabriel Belmont in the video game f castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which was released in year 2010.
