Samuel L. Jackson is an American actor, who earned much prominence for the portrayal of ‘Gator’ Purify in the 1991 drama film entitled, Jungle Fever. He was born on December 21, 1948 in Washington, D.C. His mother is Elizabeth Jackson, a factory worker and his father lived away from them and died from alcoholism. He was baptized with the real name of Samuel Leroy Jackson and has entered various Segregated schools, including the Riverside High School in Chattanooga, where he used to play French horn and trumpet in their school’s orchestra. He also entered the Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, having then purpose to take a degree in marine biology. To have additional grades in class, Jackson joined a local acting group, which eventually started his interest in acting and later changed his major. Prior to his graduation, Jackson became the co-founder of the ‘Just Us Theatre.
He initially intended to have major in marine biology and later changed it to architect and finally he stetted on drama, after having a public speaking class and had a part in a production of The Threepenny Opera. He then started his professional career on acting, appearing in various plays, which also includes the production of Home and A Soldier’s Play. On the other hand, Jackson has also appeared in various TV programs and TV films. He then made his feature film debut in the independent film called, Together for Days in year 1972, together with Clifton Davis and Northern Calloway. After his appearance on the said film, Jackson relocated to New York City in year 1976. Subsequently, he appeared in the stage productions such as, The Piano Lesson and Two Trains Running, which were premiered at the Yale Repertory Theatre. However, in his early career, Jackson started to be addicted in alcohol and cocaine, as a result he was not able to pursue with the two productions, he then replaced by the actors of Charles S. Dutton and Anthony Chisholm. On the other hand, Jackson still had small role in various films like the comedy called, Coming to America, where he portrayed the role of a Robber, together with Eddie Murphy.
After his portrayal in the production of A Soldier’s Play, Jackson was introduce to Shelton Jackson ‘Spike’ Lee, a film director, producer and writer, who includes him in the ensemble of the 1988 film of School Daze and the film of Do The Right Thing in year 1989. Moreover, Jackson appeared in the 1990 in the crime film entitled, Goodfellas, where he portrayed the role of Parnell ‘Stacks’ Edwards, alongside Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. While finishing these films, something worst happened, Jackson’s addiction to drug has worsened. This eventually led his family to take him into rehab clinic somewhere in New York. After his treatment, Jackson then appeared in the drama film called, Jungle Fever, where he portrayed the role of ‘Gator’ Purify, together with Wesley Snipes ad Annabella Sciorra. After appearing on the said film, Jackson was included in the ensemble of the films of Strictly Business, Juice and Patriot Games, where he portrayed the roles of Moroe, Trip and Lt. Commander Robby Jackson, respectively.
He then made his first starring role in the crime comedy film entitled, Loaded Weapon 1, where he portrayed the role of Wes Luger, together with Emilio Estevez. He also starred together with Nicolas Cage in the comedy film entitled, Amos & Andrew. Also, in year 1993, Jackson appeared in the science fiction film of the Jurassic Park, which has been directed by Steven Spielberg. On the following year, Jackson was included in the casts of the crime film entitled, Pulp Fiction, where he portrayed the role of Jules Winnfield. For his portrayal on the film, Jackson earned a nomination for an Academt Award for the Best Supporting Actor as well as a Golden Globe nomination. He also received a BAFTA Award for the Best Supporting Actor. Jackson then starred in the 1997 film called, One Eight Seven, where he portrayed the role of Trevor Garfield.
On the following year, he starred in the drama thriller film of The Negotiator, where he portrayed the role of Lt. Danny Roman, together with Kevin Spacey and Paul Guilfoyle. Jackson then included n the casts of the 1999 horror film called, Deep Blue Sea, where he portrayed the role of Russell Franklin, together with the stars of Thomas Jane and Saffron Burrows. On the same year, he appeared as Mace Windu, in the film entitled, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. In year 2000, Jackson earned a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Subsequently, Jackson starred in the 2000 remake of the film of Shaft. On the following year, he appeared in the drama film called, The Caveman’s Valentine, where he portrayed the role of Romulus Ledbetter. He then reprised his role as Mace Windu in the 2003 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
In year 2004, Jackson starred together with Ashley Judd and Andy Garcia in the thriller film of Twisted, where he portrayed the role of John Mills. On the following year, he appeared in the comedy crime film of The Man, where he portrayed the lead role of Agent Derrick Vann. In year 2007, Jackson appeared in the films of Black Snake Moan, 1408, Resurrecting The Champ and Cleaner, where he portrayed the roles of Lazarus Redd, Gerald Olin, Champ and Tom Cutler, respectively. In year 2008, he portrayed the role of Nick Fury in the superhero film of Iron Man. On the same year, he appeared The Octopus in the film of The Spirit. In year 2010, he reprised his role as Nick Fury in the second sequel of the Iron Man. He also appeared as Nick Fury in the 2011 film of Thor, alongside Chris Hemsworth. On the same year, he starred in the action film of Arena. In addition, Jackson is set to appear in the upcoming films of Zambezia, The Avengers and The Samaritan.
