Shirley MacLaine is an American actress, who earned much prominence for her portrayal in Terms of Endearment. She was born on April 24, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia, U.S, to Ira Owens Beaty and Kathlyn Corrine, a psychology professor and a drama teacher. She was baptized with the real named of Shirley MacLean Beaty. She entered the Washington-Lee High School, where she became one of the members of the cheerleading squad and also involved in some school productions. After MacLaine graduated, she made her return and became an understudy to actress Carol Haney in The Pajama Game. The film producer Hal B. Wallis noticed her and took note of her and signed her to work for the renowned Paramount Pictures.
On the other hand, MacLaine had her film debut in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble with Harry in year 1955, which earned her a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the year-Actress. On the following year, she earned a role in Hot Spell and in Around the World in English Days. She also starred in the film of Some Came Running. She then starred in The Children’s Hour in year 1961, which also starred Audrey Hepbum. She starred together with Clint Eastwood in the film of Two Mules for Sister Sara. In year 1975, she earned a nomination for the Best Documentary Feature for her documentary film called, The Other Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir. In year 1980, she starred on the film of A Change of Seasons, together with Anthony Hopkins. In year 1088, MacLaine also received a Golden Globe for the Best Actress (Drama).
She then pursued on appearing in several films, like in Steel Magnolias, together with Julia Roberts. In year 1990, she appeared in the film of Postcards From the Edge, together with the star of Meryl Streep and in the 1994 film of Guarding Test, which also starred Nicolas Cage. In addition, MacLaine also appeared in the 1996 film of Mrs. Wintebourne. In year 2005, MacLaine starred together with Kevin Costner and Jennifer Aniston in the film called, Rumor Has It. She also starred with Cameron Diaz in the film of In Her Shoes. On the other hand, MacLaine has also appeared in various TV shows, which also includes the biographical miniseries of Out on a Limb, The Salem Witch trials and These Old Broads, which had written by Carrie Fisher and also includes the stars of Elizabeth Taylor and Debbie Reynolds as well as Joan Collins.
