Terrence Howard is an American actor, who earned much prominence in the 1995 film entitled, Mr. Holland’s Opus. He was born on March 11, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois, to Anita Williams and Tyrone Howard and was baptized with the real name of Terrence Dashon Howard. At the young age 16, he released himself from his parents and was put on welfare. At the age of 18, he relocated to New York City to continue his professional acting career. In addition, Howard wanted to be a science teacher, though he had a low GPA in high school and was admitted to the Pratt Institute in New York, after he convinced him in a special entrance exam. Even though he did not graduate and did not earn a degree, Howard still claims to be an engineer. In addition, Howard also had a major role on the CBS sitcom called, Tall Hopes.
On the other hand, Howard had her first screen role, when he portrayed the role of Jackie Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream, which is one of the ABC’s miniseries. After three years, Howard had his film break, when he appeared in the film entitled, Mr. Holland’s Opus. He then pursued on appearing in TV and films and also appeared as Greg Sparks in the TV series called, Sparks, together with James L. Avery, Sr. and Miguel A. Nunez., he also appeared in the 1999 film called, The Best Man. Howard was also featured in the music video of Ashanti entitled, Foolish, as well as in the video of Be Without You. He has also had an appearance in the TV series of Family Matters.
Moreover, in year 2008, Howard had his Broadway debut, when he portrayed the role of Brick in the production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which has been directed by Debbie Allen and also includes the stars of James Earl Jones. On the same year, Howard had an appearance in the short film entitled, For All Mankind. In year 2010, it was announced that he would be joining the casts of the new Law & Order: Los Angeles installment of the Law & Order franchise, where he will portray the role of Deputy District Attorney Ricardo Morales. In year 2011, Howard will be portraying the role of Nelson Mandela in Winnie, which also includes the star of Jennifer Hudson.
