Shelley Long is an American actress, who earned such prominence when she portrayed the role of Diane Chambers on the sitcom entitled, Cheers. She was born on August 23, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Ivadine and Leland Long, a school teacher and a former rubber industry worker. Long was active on her high school year, especially when it comes to speech, competing in the Indiana High School Forensic Association and in the year 1967, Long had won the National Forensic League National Championship in Original Oratory. After she graduated for the South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Long took drama at the Northwestern University. However, she left the said school for her to continue her professional career on acting and n modeling as well.

On the other hand, Long’s break as an actress came when she started doing various commercials across the Chicago. In Chicago, Long joined the ensemble of the comedy troupe called, the Second City, she then started on writing an producing as well as co-hosting the TV program entitled, Sorting it Out. In year 1979, Longs most prominent role came, appearing in the TV film called, the Cracker Factory, where she portrayed the role of a psychiatric inmate, together with the star of Natalie Wood. She then appeared with Brad Davis and Karen Allen in the film of A Small Circle of Friends. In year 1981, Long portrayed the role of Tala in the film called, Caveman, which also includes the star of Dennis Quaid. On the following year, Long was included in the casts of the TV series of Cheers, where she portrayed the role of Diane Chamber.

In year 1986, Long starred together with Tom Hanks in the comedy film of The Money Pit. On the following year, she portrayed the role of Lauren Ames in the film written by Leslie Dixon entitled, Outrageous Fortune. On the same year, Long appeared together with Corbin Bernsen in the film of Hello Again. In year 1990, Long appeared in the comedy film called, Don’t Tell her it’s Me, where she portrayed the role of Lizzie Potts.  In year 2000, Long starred alongside Richard Gere, Helen Hunts and Farrah Fawcett as well as Kate Hudson in the romantic comedy film of Dr. T & the Women. She then portrayed the role of Mitzi Robinson in the 2007 independent film of Trust Me. She then appeared as a guest star on various sitcoms like in 8 Simple Rules. She also appeared in the sitcom of Yes, Dear. In October year 2009 and February 2011, Long appeared on some of the episodes of the TV show of Modern Family, where she portrayed the role of the ex-wife of Ed O’Neills, DeDe Pritchett.
